JAMB UTME Form Closed? Try These Options

Year after year, JAMB opens and closes its registration form. At times, the board extends the sale of the form beyond the initially announced date. Sometimes, the board sticks to its announced date and does not extend the sale of the forms.

If you miss out on buying the UTME form, perhaps because you were not aware the form was on sale, due to technical issues such as NIN/profile code delays, or for any other reason whatsoever, there are alternative means to gain admission without JAMB.

Yes, you heard me right. Without JAMB, you can still go to a university, polytechnic, college of education, college of nursing, or a college of health.

Did you miss JAMB? Let me help you explore other ways to get on campus this year.

1. Daily Part-Time Admission

If you miss the deadline for the JAMB form and don't want to wait another year for a new trial, consider giving the alternative to university/polytechnic admission a try. Daily-part-time is a program that allows students to be admitted without necessarily obtaining the UTME form or writing any JAMB CBT.

There is a misconception about daily part-time. It's not like the weekend or regular part-time, which are usually three years in polytechnics and attended during weekends. Daily part-time programs in most polytechnics are just for two years, and they run every day, morning and/or evening, e.g., The Federal Polytechnic Ede, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, etc.

Although some polytechnics still run their daily part-time on a three-year basis, it's important to find out the duration your proposed school uses before opting in.

Also, weekend part-time won't qualify for NYSC, especially if their HND is equally run on weekends. But, if you're a daily part-time student and you complete your HND full-time, you're most likely to qualify for NYSC.

Regarding universities that offer such avenues for admission if you can't meet up with the JAMB form, Federal University Oye Ekiti stands out. Currently, FUOYE is the only university running a part-time program on a daily basis and assures its students of NYSC at the end of the program. So, why not try this or any other if you're not keen on waiting another year?

2. IJMB/JUPEB

If you've heard about A'level programs that don't require JAMB, they're referring to IJMB and JUPEB, among others. These programs can be enrolled in this year, and by next year, the result can be used to obtain a JAMB DE form. With that, you can process admission into the 200-level of your proposed or qualified course.

Most students, even without missing out on JAMB registration, prefer taking this route, especially when they want to avoid the hurdle of writing UTME. Even though, by next year, they'll also write DE too. Several universities offer these advanced courses. You can check up on any of them to know if their foundation program forms are still on sale. After 9 months, you can be in 200 level.

3. Predegree

Predegree is no longer widely advised because even though you undertake the program of a university, they will require you to sit for JAMB the next year and pass before you can be offered admission into 100 level.

In other words, even with predegree, if you don't pass JAMB, you may need to walk back home defeated. Yet, you're still starting from 100-level instead of the A'level programs that promise 200-level.

However, if you've just missed out on the JAMB deadline, and you don't want to wait another 365 days for the next JAMB, going with predegree will help you occupy your time for that period, regroom you for what you might be lacking academically from secondary school and prepare you for the university workload and environment.

4. Colleges of Health/Nursing

For many years, generally, all schools of nursing and colleges of health didn't require you to write JAMB before you could be offered admission. Back then, your admission to these institutions depended solely on your O'level results and their entrance exams. Today, the story is slightly different.

Most schools and colleges of nursing and health are now asking for JAMB. While the colleges of nursing are still offering some courses without JAMB, some of their courses (ND/HND in Nursing) will require writing and passing JAMB - at least to the extent of the announced cut-off mark.

It's your duty as an aspirant to search well for what your proposed school of nursing wants. Do they require JAMB or not? If yes, don't look up to that as you've already missed out on the JAMB registration. Consider any institution not asking for JAMB instead.

As for the colleges of health, be sure you read through their courses and admission requirements to be sure of a course you can be admitted to without JAMB. Most courses of colleges of health won't require JAMB while a few such as Environmental Health, Health Information Management, etc. will ask for JAMB.

5. Distance Learning (DLC) Program

Distance Learning Programs are available to you if you don't meet up with the JAMB closing date. Yes, this is more like the part-time programs because the universities offering them typically run the classes both offline and online as the course may demand.

If you opt for a Distance Learning Program (DLC/ODL), you're more likely to spend one more year than those attending conventional university programs. In other words, for students who gained admission to a conventional university's accounting program and spend 4 years, you're more likely to use 5 years for the same course if on a distance learning basis.

Luckily, many universities, like for the daily part-time students (earlier stated), will allow their distance learning graduates to participate in NYSC (e.g. LAUTECH ODL, UI DLC, etc.) when the time comes - as long as you're within the service age of 30.

Conclusion

In summary, missing the JAMB UTME registration doesn't close all doors to higher education. Various alternatives, including daily part-time programs, IJMB/JUPEB A'level programs, predegree courses, and distance learning options, offer viable pathways to university, polytechnic, and college admissions without the need for JAMB.

Additionally, colleges of health and nursing provide opportunities for those looking to pursue specific health-related careers without JAMB prerequisites. It's crucial to research and understand the requirements and benefits of each alternative to make an informed decision that aligns with your academic and career goals.
