Will I Be Offered Admission With Awaiting Results: 20+ Facts To Know

WHAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT O'LEVEL AND A'LEVEL AWAITING RESULTS, ITS USES, AND LIMITS

One of the most confusing areas when it comes to seeking admission is awaiting results. Candidates want to know what it means to use awaiting results for admission. Some don't even understand what AWAITING RESULT (AR) is. And those who know, what be sure if they will be offered admission using it.

This piece is carefully crafted to answer students' questions regards this. Can I use awaiting results for a school of nursing or health technology admissions? Can it be used for pre-degree, IJMB, JUPEB, and more?

What's Awaiting Result?

The first step to seeking admission is having a complete O'level result i.e WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, NBAIS, etc. So, when you're about to write one or you've written it but the result is yet to be released, that's what is called awaiting result.

Results that can be awaited include WASSCE (school candidates or private candidates), NECO (internal or external candidates), NABTEB (May/June or Nov./Dec.), etc.

Note that, even though awaiting results are accepted by the majority of schools, however, using awaiting Nov/Dec series of NECO, WAEC, NABTEB results may not meet up with current year admission. This is because some schools might have completed their admission exercises before those results are released.

Also, if you use awaiting results for the JAMB UTME registration, it's important you return to any CBT center to upload your SSCE result as soon as it's released by the exams body.

Even though some people may see this as unnecessary, JAMB has insisted that candidates using results not yet released should go back to CBT centers for uploading. NO admission year is not different.

Using Awaiting Results for the University, Polytechnic and College Admissions

One of the commonest questions about results not yet released is, can it be used for admission?

Yes, it can be.

Ordinarily, for each admission year, schools are expected to wait for the release of WASSCE May/June,  NECO June/July, and NABTEB May/June before they end their admission exercises.

Recommended: Will NECO Meet Up With This Year Admission? See Answer

This is why very often, institutions wait for these exam bodies to release their results before they begin the admission processes. Some will delay their post UTME registrations or extend the closing dates.

However, in most cases, only WAEC May/June and NECO May/June results will meet all schools' admissions while some might have ended their admission exercises before the NABTEB May/June are released e.g. KWASU might have even completed admission even before NECO or NABTEB results. The school is usually fast with her admission exercise.

Using Awaiting Results for Schools of Nursing, Health Technology and Hygiene

Generally, all schools of nursing, colleges of health technology, and schools of hygiene accept awaiting results. These schools, however, will usually warn applicants in their adverts if they won't accept AR. This was explained better in the post, "School of Nursing, Health Tech, and Hygiene: Answers to Students’ Questions on Admissions".

The following schools of Nursing and health are known for allowing applicants to fill Awaiting Results during their applications. If they won't, they will indicate that in their adverts.

  1. Ogun State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta
  2. Oyo State College of Nursing Eleyele, Ibadan
  3. Ogun State College of Health Technology (OSCOTECH) Ilese Ijebu
  4. University of Benin Teaching Hospital

Using Awaiting Results for Foreign Admissions and Scholarships

It's not a usual thing to see scholarship openings considering students with results not yet released. This is because the primary basis for selecting applicants for such scholarships includes the SSCE results, participation in a scheduled test (if any), etc.

If by any chance they will consider awaiting results for scholarships, it should be detailed in the scholarship adverts.

However, it has not occurred in my experience for students to gain or seek admissions to foreign schools with awaiting results. In this case, your results must be ready before making foreign admission attempt.

Using Awaiting Results for Predegree, IJMB, JUPEB, and Cambridge A'level

Predegree is a year course you can undertake before writing JAMB UTME and seek admission to the school where you underwent the preliminary course. IJMB or JUPEB is equally a year preliminary course but more intensive. Instead of taking UTME after its completion, you obtain JAMB DE form which will give you admission into the 200 level.

For these three courses, you may be allowed to obtain their forms (using awaiting results) provided you will produce the SSCE result on or before the completion of the program.

    1. I will advise you go for your NECO. If you can't meet up with the school, do a change of institution if possible.

However, if the paper, on that day is not a required subject, you can still skip it for your post UTME.

      Best of luck.

    1. When you go to CBT center to register for the UTME, you will tell them you want to use awaiting results. Hence, they will leave that space empty for you. As soon as your results are released, you will take them back to any CBT center and upload. Then, you will use the same results to process your schools post UTMEs/screenings.
