Nigeria Navy University Form: Portal, Price, Closing Date

The three top militaries in Nigeria are the Navy, Army, and Airforce. These Defence parastatals have their primary and secondary schools. With that, it's nothing strange to ask if they have their universities too.

Especially if you're aware of the Nigerian Army University or the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), you may be interested in knowing about the Nigerian Navy University too.

This post will be answering a few of your disturbing questions and shed some light on what you might have not considered knowing about.

Among the questions to answer are:

  1. Where is the navy university located?
  2. Is Admiralty university the Nigerian Navy University?
  3. What are the Nigerian navy university courses?
  4. What are the Nigeria navy admission requirements?
  5. What is the Nigerian navy university cut-off mark?

The Nigerian Navy is Under the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA)

The Nigerian Navy doesn't have an independent university, of its own, like any other conventional university. Rather the Navy, just like the Army and Airforce, are categorized as the armed forces of Nigeria which are placed under the administration of the Ministry of Defence.

The ministry has the Nigerian Defence Academy, under it, in order to produce officers with broad-based training in both military and academic subjects designed to serve as a foundation for the future progressive development of officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Hence, if you think that the Nigerian Navy has its own University, you're wrong because they're being trained under the same academy called NDA.

Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) is Of Navy, Though Private

While NDA, which has the Navy trainees under it, was founded, owned and run by the Federal government, the Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) is more a private-owned university.

With history, the Nigerian Navy has a large share in ADUN's establishment, the university is NOT owned or run by the federal government.

ADUN was established as a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) through the joint efforts of Nigerian Navy Holdings (a subsidiary organization of the Nigerian Navy) and Hellenic Education Nigeria – (a private consultancy, with international educators) as main partners.

A side-by-side comparison of the missions of these two universities will open your mind to the fact that the ADUN doesn't have anything to do with military training or the recruitment of armed forces.

ADUN Mission Statement: To advance the frontiers of human knowledge by providing leadership in teaching and learning, research and service using cutting-edge technologies to meet current educational demands in order to surmount the myriads of challenges facing humanity.

NDA Mission Statement: The mission of NDA is to provide each officer cadet with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to meet the requirements of a military officer through military, academic, and character development.

How To Choose the Nigerian Navy in JAMB Under NDA

One of the main admission requirements, if you want to be a Navy cadet under NDA, is the JAMB UTME. All prospective applicants must register for UTME when the time comes.

While filling out the JAMB form, you're NOT going to see the Nigerian Navy University, rather you will see the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). This is what you will choose either as your first choice or second choice institution or both.

You're to consider one of the available courses available to the Navy, Army or Air Force. Study its JAMB Brochure to be sure of the SSCE and JAMB subject requirements for your proposed course before making a choice and submitting your JAMB form. Below is a quick look at available courses if you're asking for Nigerian Navy University.

With that well studied and done, in UTME, you're required to score 180 or above if you're chasing an art, social science or science course. However, for the engineering course, your score shouldn't be less than 210.

If this is met, together with the right O'level and JAMB subject combination, you'll be partaking in the NDA entrance exam which holds for all aspirants for the Army, Navy and Airforce, at the same time.

Registration For the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA)

Apart from choosing NDA in JAMB, each applicant, if the UTME is passed, will be scheduled for the entrance test.

In other words, if you don't meet the 180/210 UTME cut-off mark, even though you register for the UTME and fill out the NDA form, you won't be called for the entrance test.

Before the test, you must have obtained the NDA form. There, you'll choose your beloved category - which is the Nigerian Navy. The university allows two choices. You're free to choose as follows.

  1. Nigerian Navy as both the first and second choice
  2. Nigerian Navy as the first with any other category (Army/Airforce) as the second choice
  3. Any other category (Army/Airforce) as the first with the Nigerian Navy as the second choice.

After the NDA entrance test, if you pass, you'll be called for an interview. If you pass this too, you're sure to be admitted into NDA and to your own beloved category - Nigerian Navy Cadet.

Conclusion

Nigerian Navy University is not a separate entity from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). To become trained personnel or an officer of the Navy, you'll be admitted by NDA and be produced into the Navy.

As a result, it's safe to say that the Nigerian Defence Academy is also the Nigerian Navy University, just as the latter represents the Army and Airforce University.

Seeking admission will require you to obtain JAMB, meet the announced cut-off mark, partake in, pass the NDA entrance exam, and take part in the interview.
