2024 UTME/DE: Errors in Name, Email, DOB, Gender, Local Govt, Subjects Combination

JAMB logo

This post is divided into two main sections: the first addresses errors in details such as name, email, date of birth (DOB), gender, sate/local government, and subject combination during the registration process and before the final submission of the form. The second section deals with rectifying these issues after the registration has been completed and submitted.

NOTE: This is an updated post. If you've visited this page before, you'd find that the content now differs from what was previously posted. This change is due to updates in JAMB's policies regarding corrections to the names, emails, date of birth (DOB), gender, state/local government, and subject combination.

Since the commencement of JAMB UTME/DE form sales, I've received numerous complaints from admission seekers about various issues that require attention.

It's crucial to address these concerns, including:

  1. What to do if a CBT centre made an error with my email during UTME registration?
  2. How can I correct my gender if it was incorrectly recorded?
  3. How do I correct mistakes in the spelling or arrangement of my names?
  4. What should I do if I chose the wrong state and local government of origin?
  5. Where do I go to make these corrections, a café or a CBT centre?
  6. What steps should I take if the wrong subjects were chosen for my UTME?

If you're facing any of the situations above, you're in the right place.

Before Registering for JAMB or Final Submission

You might notice errors in your information before registering for JAMB or just before the attendant at the CBT centre or JAMB office submits your form. Whether you're preparing for JAMB registration, have already received your profile codes, or only noticed the mistakes while at the registration centre, you have the opportunity to correct these errors before completing your registration.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the nearest NIMC office to correct errors on your NIN, such as names, date of birth, state/local government of origin, or gender. JAMB retrieves this information from your NIN, making the NIMC office the only place to rectify it before registration.
  2. After correcting your information, send an SMS in the format "REQUERY NIN" to 55019/66019. For example, "REQUERY 13452672891" to 55019/66019. You will be charged N50 for the service. You should receive a message confirming that the updated data has been fetched from the NIMC's database by JAMB. If not, return to NIMC for further assistance.
  3. Once the updated data is successfully pulled, you can generate your profile code and use it to purchase your JAMB PIN before proceeding with registration. If you've already generated a profile code, return to the CBT center or JAMB office to complete your registration, making sure to inform the attendant about the corrections so they can be reflected.

If your email is entered incorrectly during registration, inform the personnel registering you so he or she can make necessary corrections before the final submission.

It's your responsibility to prepare with the correct JAMB subjects before going to a CBT center for registration. If the attendant chooses incorrect subjects, immediately bring it to his or her attention so he or she can make the corrections before submission.

After Registering for JAMB or Final Submission

It's also possible that you might not notice mistakes in your names, date of birth, state of origin, gender, etc., until after the registration. While no one is perfect, and it's okay to make mistakes, there are still solutions available.

  1. Names, DOB, Gender, Local Govt: Unfortunately, JAMB has stated it won't assist with the correction of names after the JAMB registration has been submitted. Even if you correct your information at NIMC after submission, it's too late to affect your submitted registration. Nevertheless, it's advisable to correct your details at NIMC and proceed with your admission processes. If you're eventually admitted, you might try your luck with a court affidavit to support the errors. Some schools may be lenient with your situation. If admission doesn't work out this year, for any reason, ensure you send the "REQUERY NIN" SMS before processing admission again next year.
  2. Email: You can't change your email after registration has been completed and submitted. However, there are ways to work around this. The primary use of your email is to access your JAMB CAPS/portal when admission activities start. To circumvent the incorrect email, you can create the wrong email yourself if it's still available, then use the SMS method to retrieve your JAMB password. This allows you to log in to the JAMB portal with the incorrect email. Also, if you can't access the JAMB portal yourself, you can do so at a nearby CBT centre when necessary.
  3. Phone Number: Your phone number is unlikely to be incorrect as it's used for generating your profile code. If there seems to be a mistake, check if you're confusing it with another SIM.
  4. Subject Combination: Fortunately, JAMB allows the correction of subject combinations before the mock or main UTME. For instance, in 2024, students were allowed to change their subject combinations at any CBT centre or JAMB office two weeks before the mock exam. Additionally, a two-day correction window was opened, allowing candidates to make necessary changes. If you miss out on the correction period before realizing the mistake, you can change your course to one that matches the wrongly selected subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

To provide comprehensive support and guidance, I've added a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section related to correcting errors in JAMB registration details, including name, email, date of birth (DOB), gender, local government, and subject combinations.

1. What should I do if there's a mistake in my email address during UTME registration?
Inform the personnel at the CBT centre immediately to correct the email before the final submission of your form.

2. Can I correct my gender if it was incorrectly chosen during registration?
Yes, errors in gender selection can be corrected before the final submission of your registration form at the CBT centre or JAMB office.

3. How can I correct mistakes in my name spelling or arrangement?
Before the final submission of your form, notify the registration personnel at the CBT centre to correct any mistakes in your name.

4. I picked the wrong state and local government of origin. How can I correct this?
Visit the nearest NIMC office to correct your state and local government of origin on your NIN, as JAMB retrieves this information from your NIN for registration purposes.

5. Do I need to visit a café or a CBT centre to make these corrections?
Corrections related to your NIN details should be made at the NIMC office. Other corrections, such as subject combinations, can be done at a CBT centre or JAMB office.

6. The wrong subjects were chosen for my UTME. What steps should I take?
You can correct your subject combinations at any CBT centre or JAMB office. JAMB allows changes to subject combinations before the mock or main UTME exams.

7. What if I notice errors after submitting my JAMB registration?
For names, DOB, gender, and local government errors, it's recommended to correct your details at NIMC and support them with a court affidavit during your admission process, as JAMB does not allow changes after submission. For incorrect emails, create the erroneous email if possible and use the SMS method to retrieve your JAMB password. Your phone number cannot be incorrect if it was used for your profile code generation. Subject combinations can be corrected within a specified window before exams or by changing your course to match the subjects chosen.

8. Can I change my email address after completing my JAMB registration?
No, you cannot change your email address after the registration has been submitted. However, you can create an account with the incorrect email if it's available and use that to access the JAMB portal.
These FAQs aim to address the most common concerns and provide clear instructions on how to rectify errors in JAMB registration details effectively.

    1. If things were done well, it should reflect immediately. Perhaps you should ask the CBT centre to reprint the slip for you. Or check your profile details after logging into JAMB profile.

    1. Ok. Don't panic. Just try to register the wrong (new) email. If it's available, keep using it. If not, log into your JAMB profile with the wrong email and the password given to you by the CBT centre. If enters to JAMB profile account, you don't have any issues. Then, keep using the wrong email with your JAMB profile. All that matters ability to log into your profile not email. However, for other registrations in the future, such as post UTME, keep using the CORRECT EMAIL.

If such platform doesn't allow you to change it, kindly look for the portal contact phone number or email and explain your situation. There is always a solution.

    1. Try to correct that on the school portal. If it works, fine. If it doesn't, you have to visit the school ICT for help. If you can't use the ICT, you may consider changing to the same course on JAMB portal if that's good for you as well. Before that, be sure your O'level results and UTME subjects align with the new course too.

  51. Sir pls when I was registering my jamb I gave them a email they said it has already been used and I didn't have any other email with me so the jamb man said he will just add zero to my email and that when I get home I should create it. After registration getting home I tried to create the email it said the username has already been used. Sir pls what do I do

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Don't worry yourself. You create another email for post UTME and screening purposes. And for JAMB profile login, that wrong email will still take you in notwithstanding. Just write it as it's on your JAMB slip and log in with the password.

In case, you're worried, admission will not be sent to your email. You can check that on the JAMB CAPS and school portal.

  53. Please I've corrected my local government on my jamb portal for nearly two weeks now, I did it at a cafe. I paid and everything was done but it still hasn't reflected on my jamb nor school website.

I was given admission since now I have to upload my credentials to the school portal, included in those credentials is my state of origin/local government document.

The document says Adavi local government, but what's on my school and jamb portal is Okehi local government (this was a mistake made during Jamb registration last year.)

Now I've paid the fee to correct it to Adavi local government on jamb portal, it shows the fee has been used. but it's still displaying Okehi on my jamb and school portal. And I'll need to upload the state of origin/local government before I can be cleared (note: I've already paid acceptance fees and gotten admission.)

Do I wait for it to reflect on jamb and school portal before I upload my state of origin/local government document to my school portal? Or do I simply upload it now? I'm running out of time. How long will it take for it to reflect?

Lastly, please note that my jamb result says Okehi local government and I have to upload that as part of the clearance on my school portal.

    Please, what do I do?
