Of course, there is a solution. You can correct the date of birth. But can you correct it after registration? Can you continue with the JAMB registration and later correct it? Or have you missed the correction before registration but want to do it after you have already completed the JAMB registration?
In this post, I will be helping you with these issues.
You Can't Change Date of Birth After JAMB Registration
You see, before now, it was possible to correct errors in your date of birth after you had completed your JAMB registration, even after the results had been released.
Back then, JAMB would only ask you to correct the date of birth on your NIN, then visit them for the correction on their portal. All things being equal, it would be approved, and you'd be good to go.
Unfortunately, starting from the 2024 admission year, the board stopped correcting dates of birth after the registration might have been completed at a CBT center or after the results are out.

JAMB's stand on correction of date of birth |
The only option left for affected candidates is to correct their dates of birth before they register for JAMB in the first place.

If You're Yet to Register for JAMB
At this stage, you're still on the safe side. What you need to do now is go to any NIMC office for the correction of your DOB. After that, text, using the same phone line/SIM you've used before (if applicable) or using a new SIM if you're taking JAMB for the first time, REQUERY followed by a space and your NIN to 55019/66019 e.g. REQUERY 71890152171
This simple process will pull your newly corrected date of birth from the NIMC database to the JAMB database. With that, you'll receive a confirmation SMS to confirm the correction has been effected.
Although you can't see the correction until you get to the CBT center or JAMB office for the final registration. At the center, having done the correction and requery, your portal will be activated to manually correct the date of birth. Problem solved!
If You've Registered for JAMB, You're Stuck With Options
Although if the correction was not done before you registered for JAMB, you are somewhat stuck. But we can try to maneuver things. Let's explore the following possibilities:
- You can use a court affidavit to back up the errors if offered admission. This is limited by the fact that not all schools accept court affidavits. If you're lucky with a school that accepts it, this can save you the mess.
- You can let go of this year's admission. Then, correct the errors against next JAMB. Then, follow the correction and REQUERY instructions before registering.
- Some schools may not even take the date of birth difference too seriously when you're offered. Count yourself lucky if you propose such schools.
Conclusion
Correcting a date of birth after JAMB registration has become impossible starting from the 2024 admission year. The most effective approach is to correct any discrepancies in your NIN at an NIMC office before registering for JAMB.
For those who have already registered and are facing this issue, limited options include using a court affidavit or postponing your admission to correct the date of birth for the next JAMB cycle. However, some institutions may overlook minor discrepancies in the date of birth, offering a potential albeit uncertain reprieve.
