JAMB Profile Code: Why "NIN Must Be Numbers Only"?

When attempting to obtain their profile codes, some students encountered the error reply "NIN Must be Numbers Only." They were unsure of the reason behind this problem.

In fact, when a concerned student reported this issue, JAMB had not provided any answer as of the time of this writing. 

Other readers who attempted to resolve it also faced challenges. So, why does this error or complaint occur, and what can be done about it?

You Have Included Special Character(s) in The SMS Sent

Normally, to obtain your profile code, you will send NIN followed by a space, then followed by the actual NIN, for example, NIN 48179271891.

However, some students may have made errors such as:

1. Creating a space before typing NIN.
2. Typing two spaces before/after the NIN.
3. Adding spaces after the actual NIN.
4. Inserting punctuation marks such as commas (,), colons (:), semicolons (;), full stops (.), or any other symbols.

All of the above or similar mistakes will result in the following reply:

NIN Must be Numbers Only. e.g. NIN 00000000021 to 55019.

Now, you should be aware of what to check for before resending the SMS. Ensure that you have not typed more than just the NIN followed by a space and the actual NIN.
