O'level Subjects Repeated Twice on JAMB Portal, Why?

Some admission seekers had gone to CBT centres to upload their O'level results. Returning to their JAMB portal to confirm if the results were reflecting on their CAPS, they noticed some subjects were repeated twice.

A student had just contacted on this issue and similar ones. He checked his JAMB CAPS to see the O'level results uploaded but he saw that English, Mathematics, Civic Education and a few other subjects were showing two times with their corresponding grades though.

He wanted to know the way out. How could you solve this problem? Does it matter? Will it affect your admission if left unchanged? Can you change it back to show only one subject if you return to the CBT centre?

These are a few questions this post will be answering.

Don't Worry About Subjects Repeating Themselves on the JAMB Portal

You don't have to worry as this error is usually due to the JAMB portal technical glitches. It is not the fault of the CBT centre that helped you to upload the result in the first place.

Candidates are likely to see each subject repeating itself on certain conditions. It may happen if you have uploaded the result once but later returned to reupload it.

Some had uploaded one result but they later added another result (maybe a better one or to make two sittings). Some candidates clicked on the refresh button a few times to make their results reflect and this happened.

In short, it's not a problem as regards your admission as this is of no effect in any way.

But the Subjects Showing Are More than 9 Required for Admissions?

Yes, that's true. Even, you don't need 9 subjects to gain admission to any course. Each course in a university, polytechnic, college of education, innovation enterprise institution (IEI), school of nursing and college of health requires, at maximum, 6 subjects

In fact, very many schools only demand 5 subjects for their courses except the University of Ibadan (UI) which may request 6 subjects, if a candidate is using two sittings, for some courses, or the Nigerian Police Academy (POLAC) which may, not always though, require 6 subjects.

So, if you're worried about 18 subjects appearing on your JAMB CAPS, don't. The good news is that JAMB is only interested in the 5/6 subjects that you need for your proposed course.

Yes, you heard that right. Be it to JAMB or to your school, what matters is the 5/6 subjects required for your course and it won't matter, as well, whether each of the subjects is appearing twice.

While Filling Out the Post-UTME Form, Fill in the O'level Results Correctly Though

Except for a few schools, every university, polytechnic, college of education and IEI will still open their admission forms for all applicants. This form is called the post-UTME or screening form.

While registering on the individual school's admission portal, aspirants will equally be required to enter their O'lvel subjects and grades. In fact, some schools will include scanning and uploading e.g. Federal Polytechnic Offa, Obafemi Awolowo University, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State Polytechnic Iree etc.

During the post-UTME or the screening period, enter all the subjects and grades (no repetition as it happened on the JAMB Portal). If your school wants all the subjects e.g. Osun State University, University of Ilorin, Lagos State University, University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University etc., supply all the 9 subjects.

Some schools, however, will only ask you to fill in the five required subjects for your proposed course e.g. Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke. Some schools will ask for 7 subjects which will include 5 required and 2 others e.g. Obafemi Awolowo University School of Nursing. Some will ask for only 8 but demand scanning and uploading of the entered result e.g. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Conclusion

A repeating subject on the JAMB portal is nothing to worry about as long as the upload is already showing the 5 or 6 subjects you will need for the course you propose. That's what matters in the long run.

However, for the post-UTME/screening registration, fill in the subjects correctly and don't worry about repeating it here. Just as for the matriculation board, your school will take the 5 or 6 subjects needed from all the subjects supplied for the post-UTME too.
