1. Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, Kaduna State

This is the number one military institution in Nigeria. Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) is administered by the Ministry of Defence and it takes applicants into the Nation's Army, Air Force, and Navy. Hence, this is a three-in-one university of the Army.

An SSCE holder can seek admission into the university through Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB exams called the Univerfied territory Matriculation Examination (UTME). Generally, to complete any of the university's approved courses, it will take you 5 years, unlike other conventional universities where years of studies vary by course or department.

However, at the time of this post, the Nigerian Defence Academy is not accepting (and has never been) applicants through the JAMB Direct entry application which should give 200 level admission instead.

3. Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), Borno State

Nigerian Army University is meant to produce skilled manpower (selected civilians and soldiers) with distinctive competence capable of meeting the security and technological challenges of both the military and the nation.

We can define Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) as a conventional university by the Nigerian Army. Hence, it's no different from any other Federal University out there.

To establish a clear difference between this university and NDA, the mandate of the Nigerian Defence Academy is to produce young officers with first degrees for the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, and the Nigerian Air Force. NDA also assists the Police, Para-military agencies such as the Customs, Immigration, the Prisons and Civil Defence Corps as well as other security agencies to conduct training for their officers. On the other hand, the NAUB graduates are possibly trained in the areas of defence. Yet, there are products to the world beyond Army Airforce and Navy.

An SSCE holder may consider the university while registering for the JAMB UTME or during the change of institutions/courses exercise. If admitted, he is expected to spend the usual duration of the course, like any other university, depending on the discipline.
