Will I Serve at NYSC After Part-Time, Distance Learning or Sandwich Degree/HND?

Yet 30 Years Age is A Must For NYSC with DLC, Part-Time or Sandwich
NYSC logo
One of the very reasons several candidates are aspiring for full-time and regular degree programmes is because they want to serve at NYSC. At the end of their studies at a university or polytechnic, they want to take part in the National Service program. But as more programmes such as distance learning, part-time, and sandwich are being run by universities, frustrated candidates are now falling back to that.

However, they're still concerned about whether they will be able to partake in NYSC. Before now, of course, unless you did a full-time BSC or HND course, you couldn't serve.

The story has changed since JAMB was going into consensus with schools and NYSC on several modalities. JAMB has now instructed all polytechnics and universities running distance learning and part-time programmes to enroll their candidates, as well, on the JAMB portal. This is will allow the body to capture all their data and when needed make it available to other bodies such as NYSC.

Schools are asking PT applicants to register with JAMB

Hence,...

You Can Serve at NYSC with a Distance Learning Programme

Visiting the JAMB profile, the body has opened a platform for part-time, distance-learning, and sandwich candidates to apply with the body.

JAMB links for DLC, Part-time, and sandwich

The purpose is to capture prospective graduates' details in order to produce them for NYSC (if eligible) or for future references of any kind.

JAMB is the sole body in charge of admissions in Nigeria today. The body is now stepping up to be completely in charge. Hence, all schools must instruct candidates for non-regular courses to register with the body.

Yet, 18 to 30 Years Age is Still the Acceptable Age For NYSC

It's important to note that even though, with the new arrangement among NYSC, JAMB, and schools, prospective candidates for national service must be within the age bracket of 18 to 30. This is the official age recognized by NYSC for mobilization.

If you're outside this age bracket, you may need to be on the lookout for an exemption certificate or exclusion letters instead.

Some Distance Learning Centres or Part-time Centres Guarantee NYSC

Even though I may not have all official writings from all universities providing DLC or ODL programs as to whether you will be able to serve after your course, this doesn't mean there are some that won't be able to produce candidates for NYSC. They all will do.

In support of this, we've got some official updates from a few schools. Some instruct their Part-time applicants to register with JAMB e.g. Federal Poly Ede, The Polytechnic Ibadan, University of Ibadan DLC, Obafemi Awolowo University DLC, etc.

Talking of the UI DLC, the management recently sent the message below to both old and new students as part of its plan to mobilize them for NYSC.

This is to notify learners who were admitted in 2018/2019, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022 academic sessions that the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has integrated the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre (UIDLC) admission process into the JAMB portal. This will enable UIDLC learners to be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or issued a Certificate of Exemption. In view of the above, you are to visit any JAMB Accredited Centre to register.

Very recently, the Ladoke Akintola University Distance Learning Centre has started mobilizing its graduates to serve at NYSC.

The purpose of this registration upfront is to let you have a JAMB registration number, which the school will use to mobilize you for admission in the future.

Conclusion

Prospective applicants for Distance Learning Programs, Part-time Courses, and Sandwich programs within the right age bracket should be on the lookout for NYSC mobilization. This is only achievable, however, if the candidates had applied with JAMB to have a personal JAMB registration number. The instructions of which should be given by the school management. Those outside the service age bracket may still be out of luck.

I register for nysc earlier this year for batch A the same way my fellow foreign student did but my dash board is saying your exclusion letter is being processed whereas I am not a part time student, I am a full time student. I couldn’t fix it when I went to complain at the nysc secretariat in my vicinity, I was told that they can only rectify it for me if I come for physical verification but I couldn’t get the verification done because the evaluation letter wasn’t available then. Now I have the evaluation letter and I am waiting for batch B physical verification so that they will help me rectify it. Please am I going to go for nysc because the last time I checked my dashboard it shows that I am not yet mobilized. Please how do I go about this🙏 I want to go for service.

    4. Keep checking the dashboard to know when they will invite you for the physical screening. You should also upload the evaluation letter to your NYSC portal, under document upload category. and it will save you some doubts if you can visit the NYSC secretariat of your state for more clarification. You don't have to worry though.

I used my ND result to apply, and I have been to jamb office for distance learning registration already now. What I want to get is will I still get a direct entry form again??? Or the distance learning form I collected will cover up for me. Cus lautech gave me admission and while I was doing ND, jamb gave me admission then which I finished in 2019. So I don't know if the distance learning which I went to do the registration would cover up for everything or I should still get a direct entry form again?

    1. It won't. You can check your status to know if you're in the matriculation list. The number that showed that you're in the matriculation should be the right one to submit to the school for NYSC.

I got all my certificates, and transcripts sent to me through dhl . will I be Mobilised for Nysc and if no, will I have to do jamb regularization so I can have jamb number that I can use. Is the jamb regularization for only NIGERIA schools ??

    ReplyDelete

    1. First talk to your school to know if they do process candidates for NYSC. In your case, you likely going to be filed for part-time programme which will subject to NYSC exclusion letter instead of being able to serve like counterparts who studied at a physical university abroad. I am not sure regularization is of any need for you.
