Any Effect, If I Don't Process Admission After JAMB?

A student just contacted me to know if there is any consequence if a student obtains a JAMB form without writing JAMB or processing the admission further.

I've got a similar question when a student asked "Is there any effect if I have a JAMB result but never process admission with it?"

Well, it's a sensitive question that will be addressed in this post.

JAMB Doesn't Force You To Write UTME

For whatever reason, candidates who obtain the JAMB form may not write the exam. That's not a must!

There are cases, where after obtaining UTME, when preparing for the exam, some students fall sick, relocate, or have some personal concerns that stop them from writing the UTME.

There is no other effect, if this happens, other than you've missed the UTME and you can't process admission with a "missed UTME".

Of course, next year or other years are there for you to try again. In other words, you're free to pick the JAMB form next year and process your admission without any issue or repercussion.

JAMB Doesn't Force You To Process Admission With your JAMB Result

In your own case, you wrote JAMB and had your result but couldn't process the admission further.

It may be due to finance, failure in the JAMB or not meeting the cut-off mark of the proposed institution/course, or any personal concern, not being able to continue with the admission can happen at any stage.

In this situation, you don't have anything to worry about as there is no sanction or repercussion for having a UTME result without processing a school admission with it.

I've seen candidates who dropped their JAMB score and secured daily part-time admission (which doesn't require JAMB/score) instead.

In the following admission years, you can pick new JAMB forms with no issue or any reference to your not using the last JAMB result.

JAMB, Like Other Exams, Can Be Taken Many Times

Just like WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or GCE, JAMB UTME can be taken several times until you make it or it's fit for admission.

Except that you can't combine results, former JAMB forms or results won't stop you from writing another JAMB or securing admission eventually.

Similarly, you're allowed to use your next JAMB score to process admission into the same set of schools you chose in the previous years or consider a new set.

In fact, the same JAMB profile (portal) and email will be used for the following JAMB forms and admission

The board has made the system accommodating for students that will retake its exam and reprocess admission year after year if necessary.

Conclusion

If necessary, you're free not to write the JAMB exam if you've obtained the form. So also, your UTME result is not necessarily used for the year of admission, though can't be used the next year, you're allowed to reobtain the next JAMB, write the exam, and use your result to process admission with any consequences.
