I'm Sick, Can't Go For JAMB Exam, What Should I Do?

When it's JAMB time, there will be eventualities. One such is illness or accident. Students who are chronically ill or involved in an accident can only pray for survival but never postpone an exam. However, in such cases, you should consider what is possible.

Will you still be given the grace to write your own JAMB after you've recovered from illness or accident? This question will likely come up if you've heard that, in the past or yearly, JAMB does conduct mop-up tests for those who missed their UTME schedules.

In this post, I will be sharing a few things - if it's possible to still write JAMB after missing out due to sickness or injuries and what to do to make that possible.

Yes, It's Still Possible to Write JAMB If You're Ill

You see, JAMB is not lenient when it comes to certain complaints. The board doesn't condone lateness or absence due to flimsy excuses such as a flat tire, a car breaking down, missing the center address, etc. But if it's an illness or accident case, you're covered.

However, it must be proved that you're truly ill under two conditions:

  1. If you contact the board before your own exam date or
  2. if you can legally prove it after your own schedule

Let me explain. On different occasions when concerns reach out to the board on illness and accident matters, the board will ask them to report through its support link with substantial evidence of the cases claimed.

For example, in the following interactions, it's obvious JAMB will be considerate if things are done correctly.

According to JAMB, while addressing an accident case, the board if the affected student visited any government hospital after the accident, and if was given any medical report to that effect thereafter?

While addressing Joseph on a similar issue, kindly make an official request through the ticketing platform and attach proofs. If your claim is genuine, you will be rescheduled.

As you can see, what matters is reporting to JAMB, be it before your schedule or after missing the exam, with supportive and acceptable proof.

How to Contact JAMB on Illness/Accident Issue and Request a Reschedule

If you find yourself in this situation, don't fret - at least not yet. Get the proof ready and follow the steps below.

  1. Gather Documentation: Collect all relevant documentation related to your illness or accident. This could include medical reports, hospital receipts, doctor's notes, or any other official documents that prove your condition.
  2. Visit the JAMB Support Platform: Go to the official JAMB website or support platform where you can submit requests and inquiries. The direct link is https://www.jamb.gov.ng/support
  3. Submit an Official Request: Fill out the necessary forms or create a ticket on the support platform. Provide detailed information about your situation, including your exam date, the nature of your illness or accident, and any supporting documents you have.
  4. Attach Supporting Documents: Upload copies of the documents you gathered in step 1. Make sure they are clear and legible so that JAMB officials can review them easily.
  5. Wait for a Response: After submitting your request, wait for JAMB to review your case. They may contact you for additional information or clarification if needed.
  6. Follow-Up: If you don't hear back from JAMB within a reasonable time frame, follow up on your request. Check your email or the support platform regularly for updates on your case. You should be checking any SMS coming to your phone and checking your JAMB exam reprint page to know if they're rescheduled. Do that daily so you don't miss out again
  7. Reschedule Exam: If JAMB determines that your request is genuine and you provide sufficient evidence, they will likely offer to reschedule your exam for a later date. It may happen while the exam is ongoing or after the general exam schedule is over.
  8. Prepare for the Rescheduled Exam: Once your exam is rescheduled, use the additional time to prepare thoroughly. Review your study materials, practice past questions, and ensure you're ready to perform your best on the day of the exam.
