Holders of National Diploma (ND) in Science Laboratory Science had been asking a few questions to decide their next moves after being awarded the ordinary national certificate. Some want to obtain the JAMB direct entry form to pull Degree Nursing admission while others are considering alternative courses such as Medical Laboratory Science.
Before deciding which is which, there is the need to know the list of universities that will accept SLT (OND/HND) for Nursing. I remember giving you about 5 that will accept that for Nursing. However, for those who are interested in Medical Laboratory Science instead, this post will be your comprehensive guide.
The post will answer the questions of whether you can obtain a direct entry form for degree MLS admission or not. It will address whether you must do industrial training before taking such a step. And finally, I will cover the list of universities accepting the Higher National Diplomas or Ordinary National Diplomas for Medical Laboratory Science.
I've confirmed, officially, that there are 7 universities in Nigeria that accept SLT for their MLS admission through DE which will be listed in the other section of this post. Read on!

You Can Pull MLS Direct Entry Admission with SLT
Generally, it's acceptable to obtain the JAMB direct entry form and pull DE admission into the universities offering MLS. However, not all Nigerian universities offering MLS will consider polytechnic Science Laboratory graduates for the course.I've confirmed, officially, that there are 7 universities in Nigeria that accept SLT for their MLS admission through DE which will be listed in the other section of this post. Read on!

If you must proceed to a university after your ND through JAMB DE for a degree in your course or related one, you don't need IT experience.
You Don't Need Industrial Training Before Direct Entry Application
The only admission that requires you to partake in the one-year industrial (IT) program is the HND. IT is a prerequisite for HND admission. Therefore, an ND holder must spend 1 year (for any grade above pass) or 2 years (for pass) with any organization to acquire practical on-field experiences.If you must proceed to a university after your ND through JAMB DE for a degree in your course or related one, you don't need IT experience.

MAIDUGURI accepts certificates from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology, Science Laboratory Technology (IMLS/T) of Nigeria.
Though it wasn't made very clear, according to the JAMB brochure, whether this certificate should be processed by a degree or HND holder. Yet, it's safe to conclude that if you are an HND or a BSC holder with the aforementioned certificate, you can obtain DE for the University.
List of Universities Accepting HND/ND SLT for Medical Laboratory Science
Below is the list of Nigerian universities you can consider for admission if you have HND/ND Science Laboratory Technology. Be sure to pay attention to where HND and/or ND is application
1. University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Borno State
The University of Maiduguri is a Federal higher institution located in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State in northeast NigeriaMAIDUGURI accepts certificates from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology, Science Laboratory Technology (IMLS/T) of Nigeria.
Though it wasn't made very clear, according to the JAMB brochure, whether this certificate should be processed by a degree or HND holder. Yet, it's safe to conclude that if you are an HND or a BSC holder with the aforementioned certificate, you can obtain DE for the University.

Similar to UNIMAID, IMSU also accepts certificates of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology, Science/Technology (IMLS/T) of Nigeria.
In order words, this admission is opened to HND holders instead.
2. Imo State University (IMUS)
The Imo State University is located in Owerri, Imo State, NigeriaSimilar to UNIMAID, IMSU also accepts certificates of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology, Science/Technology (IMLS/T) of Nigeria.
In order words, this admission is opened to HND holders instead.

RSUST accepts Admission to Year III; HND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline. Admission to Year II; HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline. OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline.
3. Rivers State Unversity of Science and Technology (RSUST)
Rivers State University, formerly Rivers State University of Science and Technology is a university located in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.RSUST accepts Admission to Year III; HND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline. Admission to Year II; HND (Lower Credit) in relevant discipline. OND/ND (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline.

UNN accepts ND upper credit in related programmes for MLS admissions.
4. University of Nigeria (UNN)
The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, NigeriaUNN accepts ND upper credit in related programmes for MLS admissions.

EUI accepts; OND/HND in related courses with an upper credit plus 'O' Level entry requirement.
5. Edo University, Iyamho
Edo University, Iyamho is a state government-owned tertiary institution founded in 2016. It is located in Iyamho, a town in Etsako West local government area of Edo State, NigeriaEUI accepts; OND/HND in related courses with an upper credit plus 'O' Level entry requirement.

UNIIBADAN accepts 'A' Level passes to include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology B.Sc. or HND in the relevant programme; AIMLT or FIMLT plus UTME requirements.
UNIZIK accepts HND/B.SC in Biological Sciences or related programme.

6. University of Ibadan (UI)
The University of Ibadan is the oldest degree-awarding institution in Nigeria and is located five miles from the centre of the major city of Ibadan in Western Nigeria.UNIIBADAN accepts 'A' Level passes to include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology B.Sc. or HND in the relevant programme; AIMLT or FIMLT plus UTME requirements.
7. Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK)
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka also called UNIZIK or NAU, in short, is a Federal university in Nigeria.UNIZIK accepts HND/B.SC in Biological Sciences or related programme.

ReplyDeleteSL should be accepted for MLS. What I can't guarantee is your admission chance with your lower credit. There are more candidates fighting for MLS Direct Entry with distinctions and upper credit. That grade may m=limit you if the competition is high. Read the post below.

ReplyDeleteIt should be possible to do PGD. However, I don't have updates regards cross. The best way is to study the JAMB brochure and see if your intended university will accept that.
