Direct Entry Requirements for Medicine and Surgery Admissions

Direct Entry applicants are usually candidates who have completed their IJMB, JUPEB, or similar A'level course, National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, National Certificate in Education, and BSC of any kind but want to continue their studies at another university.

While seeking admission, as a DE applicant for Medicine and Surgery, you have to possess a competitive grade in a relevant course,

generally, the JAMB brochure requires applicants to possess:

1. 'A' Level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology in addition to the SSCE subjects required. 
2. BSC, BOS, etc. in the relevant programmes.

SSCE (O'level Subjects Required for Medicine and Surgery Admissions

According to the JAMB brochure, candidates seeking admission for Medicine and Surgery must generally possess at least credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Once you have the five subjects, it won't matter if your grades are As, Bs, or Cs. What matters is having the five subjects with at least C6. The only exception here is if such a university is using a screening method for admission where the higher grades may count.

It won't matter whether the result is WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB too. All these SSCEs are acceptable for Medicine and Surgery.

However, there are some universities offering Medicine and surgery but usually insist on possessing just one sitting of the results. UTME Subjects Required for Medicine and Surgery Admissions

Candidates are required to sit and write four papers/subjects in UTME. As for Medicine and Surgery, the required subjects are English, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.

There is no need to worry about making the wrong choice of UTME subjects for Medicine and Surgery as the subjects listed above will automatically be chosen for you by the system as soon as it understands your proposed course in Medicine.

Meanwhile, if you've wrongly chosen the subjects or you'd proposed another course other than medicine initially but now wish to change to Medicare, you can still use your subjects for other courses if those choices align with what some universities state they can accept in place of the general four stated above.
