I Have JAMB SIM, But Can't Get My UTME Result

Some UTME candidates still have their JAMB SIM but they could not receive their results even after sending UTMERESULT to 55019.

Some were not even debited of N50 not to say receiving any message containing the results. Some were debited but no message was returned. Some got returning subscription/debit messages but never got the result.

Well, I've guided you on how to check your JAMB result using the JAMB portal instead of the popularly known SMS method.

Though that will cost you more, about N1500. It's worth it if it's going to save you some headaches.

However, some students couldn't avoid the money now. In fact, using the services of a CBT center or café may increase that fee to N2500.

So, what can you do to make sure you get the UTME result through your SIM still?

Identified Problems With Such SIMs

We've gathered some facts about why some candidates could not get their UTME results through SMS despite having or using the same SIM they used to register for JAMB or get their profile codes.

I will take each problem and give a solution to it. Then, try it and see if that will help your SIM.

1. Some SIMs Could Not Receive SMS or Text Messages

You may be a victim of a partial technical issue with your SIM. Such SIM will not receive SMS from JAMB or any other source.

  1. To troubleshoot this, first, use another line to send an SMS to your SIM.
  2. You can also put your SIM inside another phone and retry the SMS.

If the SIM receives the message sent, or if the second option works, it simply means, the SIM can receive the messages. Hence, you're not affected by this.

But if your SIM can't receive messages from other lines or numbers, it's a SIM problem.

Take the following steps to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Check Network Coverage: Ensure that you have network coverage in your current location. Weak or no signal can prevent your SIM card from receiving text messages. If you are in an area with poor network coverage, try moving to a different location or check if other devices are experiencing the same issue.
  2. Restart Your Phone: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix connectivity issues. Turn off your phone, remove the SIM card, wait for a few seconds, reinsert the SIM card, and then turn on your phone. This action helps refresh the network connection and may resolve the problem.
  3. Check Message Settings: Verify that your message settings are correct. Go to your phone's settings, navigate to the messaging or SMS settings, and ensure that the message center number is correctly set for your network provider. You can contact your network provider's customer support or visit their website to obtain the correct message center number if you're unsure.
  4. You may also want to try other troubleshooting tips if your JAMB SIM can't receive SMS.'

2. Some SIMS Could Not Even Send Messages

Similar to those candidates who could send a message but whose SIMs could not receive reports or messages, we also have candidates who couldn't even send the message.

They tried sending UTMERESULT to 55019 but were not debited or had no confirmation of the sent message. Some SIMs will even show "Not sent", "Could Not Sent" and other similar messages.

One common troubleshooting is to remove that SIM and put it inside another phone especially basic phones (button phones). Then, resend your message.

If the same will have to go through some technical troubleshooting too.

  1. Check Network Coverage: Ensure that you have a strong network signal in your current location. Poor or no network coverage can prevent your SIM card from sending text messages. If you're in an area with weak signal strength, try moving to a different location or check if other devices are experiencing the same issue.
  2. Check Message Center Number: Confirm that the message center number is correctly set on your phone. The message center number is a specific phone number associated with your network provider that handles SMS messages. Contact your network provider's customer support or visit their website to obtain the correct message center number. Then, go to your phone's messaging settings and ensure that the message center number is entered correctly.
  3. SIM Card Compatibility: Ensure that your SIM card is compatible with your phone and inserted correctly. Check if the SIM card is damaged or expired. If necessary, contact your network provider to obtain a new SIM card.
  4. Of course, if none of the above helps out, there are a few other ways to troubleshoot your SIM if it can't send SMS or text messages.

Retrieving Your Line May Reset Things

I've personally done all the above for a few students without success until  I instructed them to go do the welcome back for their lines.

Yes, you heard me right!

Even though the SIM was not lost or damaged, you can still retrieve it to correct some technical issues that might be impossible to trace.

Luckily for these candidates immediately after the retrieval of the SIMs, they sent UTMERESULT to 55019 and got their results through SMS.

You'll lose nothing to doing the welcome back for your active SIM except for the fee to be paid at the arrival center/shop.
