How to Avoid Mistakes in JAMB UTME/DE Registration?

Even if you've not done JAMB before, you must have heard that mistakes can crawl in during the registration for some students. Imagine some students returning home from CBT centers or JAMB to still complain that the person who registered them made mistakes in their names, email, phone number, date of birth, state, or local government of origin.

That was exactly what an affected student narrated below.

Please, if the person that registered me made a mistake while typing my email address, how can I change it?

The concerned individual was worried about the wrong email entered for him by the attendant after the registration had already been completed and submitted.

So, how do you want to avoid this kind of issue when going to register for your UTME or DE too? That's what I'm here to share with you.

Pay Attention to Your Data During the Registration

During the registration, you're to pay 100% undivided attention to the data being entered for you. Be it at the JAMB office or CBT centers, monitors used to register candidates have dual screens. With that, while the attendant has one side of the screen facing him, you have the second side of the screen facing you.

In other words, the monitor sits between you and the attendant. Hence, you can both see what is being entered at the same time. Of course, if you're attentive, with this system put up, there shouldn't be such errors as the email was mistakenly entered by the attendant. If such happens, you can easily call his attention to it.

Replying to the complaint by the candidate earlier mentioned, JAMB replied as below.

The registration computer comprises dual-view monitors, and you were physically there seeing all activities being carried out by the desk officer who asked you to confirm that the information was correct before submitting, so, how come the error becomes that of the desk officer?

There Are Even Errors Beyond Attendants

Of course, in the case of the guy above, the errors cropped in live during the registration. Yet, there are a few other mistakes that students can mistakenly accuse their attendant of, and which were never their faults.

Mistakes in names, date of birth, state and local government of origin, gender, and phone numbers will never be errors during the entry of your data at CBT centers or JAMB office.

Such errors are from you and/or during the registration of your National ID card. Of course, remember that to start the JAMB registration process, the first thing is to send your NIN to 55019/66019 to get the profile code. It's the profile code you'll use to buy the ePIN for your UTME or DE registration.

In effect, generating the profile code using your NIN means JAMB will take certain information from your NIN. This information includes your full names, date of birth, gender, state/local government of origin. So, on entering your PIN in the system to begin the registration, the attendant will meet all these data right on the system automatically generated from your NIN.

In such instances, the attendant has no control over errors you've got from your NIN data. Hence, it's never his fault but yours or the person who registered your NIN.

Based on this, I would advise making sure that all the information on your NIN is correct before you even generate the profile code using the NIN. Otherwise, where there is any error, correct it first, using the guide in "New Method to Change JAMB Names, DOB, LGA, etc.".

In brief, after correcting such errors at the NIMC office, you'll send the SMS 'REQUERY' to 55019/66019 to get the confirmation that the updated data has been pulled from the NIMC. Then, you can proceed to register for JAMB.

About the phone number, no error will crop in except you're missing something here. It's the same phone line you used to get your profile code (one used to send NIN to 55019/66019) that will appear on your registration slip. Hence, there is possibly no way there will be an error in your phone number.

Subject Combination Mistakes Are Yours

If you make a mistake in the subjects to be combined for your proposed course and institution, it's generally your fault. CBT centers are not required to be studying the JAMB brochure for students. It's solely your responsibility as an admission seeker to know the right subjects for your proposed course.

I've once given you steps to study the JAMB brochure online to avoid mistakes. That post is still relevant forever. Take time to study the JAMB brochure yourself and make sure you choose the right four subjects for your proposed course.

Although it could be possible to change your subjects mistake before the mock or main UTME. However, the best approach is to avoid the mistakes in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When registering for the JAMB UTME/DE (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination/Direct Entry), avoiding mistakes is crucial because errors can complicate or even jeopardize your admission process. Here are frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding how to avoid mistakes during the JAMB UTME/DE registration:

1. What common mistakes should I avoid during JAMB UTME/DE registration?

Answer: Common mistakes include choosing the wrong institution/course, providing incorrect personal information (such as names, date of birth, or email address), and errors in subject combination. Ensure all your details are accurate and align with your academic and career goals.

2. How can I ensure my name is correctly registered?

Answer: Double-check your name spelling before submitting your registration. Your name should match the one on your official identification documents. Any discrepancies can cause issues during examination and admission processes.

3. Can I change my course or institution after registration?

Answer: Yes, JAMB allows for changes in course and institution after registration. However, this is usually permitted within a specific timeframe and may incur additional charges. It's best to make your choices carefully to avoid this process.

4. What is the correct way to select my course and institution?

Answer: Research thoroughly on the courses you are interested in and the institutions that offer them. Consider the institution's admission criteria, course accreditation status, and your career objectives. Utilize JAMB's brochure, which provides detailed information on courses and institutions.

5. How important is the choice of subject combination for my chosen course?

Answer: Very important. Choosing the wrong subject combination for your course can disqualify you from being considered for admission. Refer to the JAMB brochure for the correct subject combinations for different courses.

6. How can I avoid mistakes when entering my personal information?

Answer: Review all entered information carefully before submission. It may help to have a trusted person double-check your details. Pay special attention to your date of birth, email address, and phone number, as these are crucial for communication and verification purposes.

7. What should I do if I notice a mistake after submitting my registration?

Answer: If you notice an error after submission, you should report it immediately to a JAMB office or your registration center. Some corrections might be allowed within a specific period after registration, but it's better to avoid mistakes in the first place.

8. How can I verify that my registration is error-free?

Answer: After completing your registration, you will receive a printout that includes your personal details, chosen institution/course, and subject combination. Verify all information on this printout. If there are any discrepancies, report them immediately to the registration center or JAMB office.
