D7/E8 in My Subjects, Which Polytechnic Can I Go For?

I had D7 in English and E8 in Physics which polytechnics can I go to?

Did you get that?

That was a question from one of my subscribers. The guy must have confirmed that universities, most of them, won't accept E8 and D7 in any required subject.

Now, he wants to fall back to polytechnics. Some, like him, will prefer to fall back to colleges of education if they have one or two deficiencies in their required SSCE (WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB) subjects.

If you're reading this, chances are you're navigating the often bewildering world of post-secondary education.

You might have heard the rumors swirling around about polytechnics and colleges of education being more lenient when it comes to those pesky D7 and E8 grades in your required subjects.

But, let's set the record straight and embark on this journey of discovery together!

JAMB Brochure: Your Trusty Navigator

First, meet your trusty navigator - the JAMB brochure

This little booklet is like the treasure map that will guide you through the labyrinth of admission requirements.

Wondering if polytechnics or colleges of education will accept your D7 or E8? The answers lie within these pages.

The JAMB brochure is like a school's official rulebook, showing what they've agreed upon with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. If they're open to considering those grades, you'll find it written there in black and white.

Hold Up, Check the School Portal Too!

But hey, we're not stopping at just one source of information. Most schools are considerate enough to provide a helping hand right on their admission portals.

They understand that not everyone has access to the JAMB brochure or a personal Sherlock Holmes. So, go ahead and explore the nooks and crannies of your chosen polytechnic's or college's website.

Meet the admission requirements for Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Lagos City Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Ede, and Ogun State Polytechnic Health and Allied Sciences. These are just a few. You should find a kind of such on your school portal too.

Look for that golden link that reveals the admission requirements for your desired course. If D7 and E8 are on the table, you'll see them right there, waving back at you.

Reality Check: The Straight Talk

Okay, here's where we dive into the nitty-gritty truth. Brace yourselves because the reality might not match what you've heard through the grapevine.

Contrary to popular belief, most polytechnics and colleges of education are a bit stricter about grades than universities.

Yep, you read that right.

They often have less room for maneuvering when it comes to those less-than-ideal D7 and E8 grades.

Polytechnics and Colleges of Education vs. Universities: The Scorecard

Guess what? After digging into the archives and talking to the admission wizards, I can tell you that universities tend to be a bit more forgiving when it comes to swapping courses or considering lower grades.

It's like they're the cool aunt who lets you pick the dessert you want, even if you didn't eat all your veggies.

So, while you might think that polytechnics and colleges are your safety net, sometimes it's the universities that come to the rescue.

In fact, I've compiled more universities accepting D7 and E8 than polytechnics and colleges in some of the posts linked below.

  1. Universities That Accept Maths D7, E8 or F9 for Law, Others
  2. Schools Accepting D7, E8 or F9 in Maths for Mass Communication
  3. Universities/Courses That Accept English D7 and E8
  4. List of Courses that Accept Government D7, E8, F9
  5. Universities and Courses that Accept Chemistry D7, E8 or F9

The Bottom Line

Listen, I get it. D7 and E8 might feel like stumbling blocks, but remember, they're just part of the journey, not the destination.

While some polytechnics and colleges might be a tad more strict about these grades, there's still hope in the world of universities. They often understand that life isn't always a smooth ride and they're ready to welcome you with open arms.

So, dear seeker of knowledge, remember that the key to unlocking your educational dreams lies in the details. Consult the JAMB brochure, scour the school's admission portal, and have a heart-to-heart with your own ambitions.

With determination and a clear understanding of your options, you'll find the path that's right for you, even if it means taking a detour or two along the way.
