How Much is the Post UTME/Screening Fee?

For some students, the first thing that comes to mind is what will be the price of their schools' post-UTME/screening forms.

This is understandable because of the economic situation of the country, you'll want to prepare, in cash, in order to obtain their post UTME/screening form.

A few parents had equally asked not only if the forms of some schools are on sale but also about the prices of those forms.

In this post, I will be quick to answer and tell you the amount of money to prepare to obtain your school post UTME/screening. Then, I will share a few references to that.

JAMB and Ministry of Education Pegs Post UTME/Screening Fee to N2000

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the Minister of Education, since 2018, had begged the prices of schools post UTME/screening forms to two thousand naira only.

The JAMB registrar, noted then, Pro. Oloyede, "the cancellation of post-UTME was a mistake, JAMB should just ensure that the fee for the examination should not exceed N2,000."

This price control was not limited to universities but also polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions (IEIs). Your school shouldn't, under normal circumstances, charge any above N2000.

With this stand, very many schools had been accepting this position of the JAMB and Ministry of Education when selling their post-UTME/screening forms.

However, there is more to this price than what JAMB and the Minister of Education had declared.

Online and Bank Charges Should Be Thought About

As a parent, when giving your ward the money for the post-UTME/screening registration you should be conscious of the hidden charges.

Generally, all schools are selling their post-UTME/screening forms online. As a result, payment is made online which calls for the platform to charge the online transaction fee when processing the payment.

Hardly do you have any school that platform will debit only N2000 when making an online payment. Most platforms will add a transaction fee between 100 and 1000.

For example, the University of Ibadan (UI) post UTME fee, though is #2000 as announced on its portal, excludes the transaction charge of more than #1000.  Same as the Obafemi Awolowo University and a few others.

The Federal Polytechnic Ede post UTME fee, together with the transaction fee, is about N2700. The Federal Polytechnic Offa could be a bit less than N2500.

The Remita charge is a common fee to be paid by students obtaining admission forms of any federal owned school. The fee is usually about N200. If you're processing a federal school, be mindful of that.

On this note, it will be wise to say that, the post-UTME fee together with the online transaction charges could be about N3000 or more for a majority of schools.

Some Schools Are Not Coming With the N2000 Benchmark

Even though very many schools are following the restriction on the price set by JAMB and the Minister of Education, some schools just charge as they want.

To avoid being sanctioned though, they will give the extra charges some sweet and defendable names such as processing fee, portal access fee, or result verification fee. This money will be asked for while the post-UTME/screening fee is being paid.

For example, the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta will add about N4000 to their base fee of N2000 (excluding the Remita charge). Tai Solain University of Education will add above N5000 to its based screening fee as a result verification fee. Moshood Abiola Polytechnic will add about N400 for the same.

Your Café Fee Should Be Given Consideration Too

So far so good, the prices talked about are only applicable to candidates who want to handle their post-UTME/screening registration by themselves.

If you must use the services of a café to register. The prices pop up a bit using a café. Each café is at the discretion to charge its own service fee.

Depending on the nature and complexity of the registration, a café may charge between N500 to N2000 for its service charge.

Some may charge a bit higher if they will use their ATM cards to process online payments for you.

Parents should therefore be conscious of this too. Reading about the application fee on a school portal or newspaper doesn't cover the charges of the professional who will handle the registration and provide more support.

Conclusion

While preparing to register for your post-UTME/screening, you should not only prepare for the fee as been charged by your school of choice, the online charge transaction charge and café service charge should be thought of and provided for.

In all, all federal-owned schools will not charge more than N3000 or thereabout. Some state and private schools will follow suit. However, some schools will give above that charging for certain services.
