DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT

JAMB UTME SUBJECT COMBINATION

SSCE (O'LEVEL) RESULTS REQUIREMENT
Five (5) SSC credit passes including English Language.

IMPORTANT CONDITIONS TO NOTE ON ADMISSION FOR LINGUISTICS

DIRECT ENTRY:
  1. AAUA accepts NCE credit/Merit in Yoruba, Mass Communication and Journalism.
  2. BSU accepts two (2) NCE/ A level passes to include English Language, French or any African Language and one (1) other Arts subjects.
  3. CALABAR accepts ND/NCE in Linguistics, Foreign Language or any Nigerian language.
  4. EKSU requires two (2) A level passes or NCE credit in Arts, Social Sciences or Sciences to include any language preferably a Nigerian Language.
  5. IBADAN accepts two (2) A level passes to include any Language preferably an African Language and another Arts or Social Science subject. NCE to include any Language preferably an African language and another Arts or Social Science subject at credit or merit level. NOTE A certified knowledge of another language other than English Language will be an added advantage. It is also an advantage if the UTME or Direct Entry subjects include Literature in English.
  6. ILORIN accepts ND in Linguistics; requires A level passes or NCE with a major in Language and any two (2) Arts/Social Sciences/ Sciences subjects.
  7. ILORIN and IBADAN require A level or NCE merit in the Arts, Social Sciences or Science subjects provided one (1) of the subjects is in the Social Sciences.
  8. BENIN and JOS - No Direct Entry.
  9. LAGOS requires very good passes in three (3) JUPEB A level subjects: Yoruba/Igbo and any two (2) of History, CRS/IS, French, Government, Music, Visual Arts and Literature in English. NCE merit in two (2) subjects to include a Nigerian Language. Candidates must also satisfy the UTME requirements.
  10. UNIOSUN requires A level pass in Literature in English. It also accepts ND lower credit Mass Communication and approved equivalent in communication programme.
  11. UNN - as in Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian Languages.
  12. UYO accepts NCE merit in any Nigerian Language.

UTME:
  1. AAUA requires O level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics one (1) Language, plus any other two (2) Arts/Social Sciences
  2. BSU requires five (5) O level credit passes in Arts and Social Sciences including Literature in English.
  3. DELSU requires O level credit pass in Literature in English.
  4. EBSU requires O level credit pass in Mathematics and O level credit pass in Nigerian Language will be an advantage.
  5. IBADAN and ILORIN require O level credit passes in Arts and Social Sciences. ILORIN requires at least one Nigerian Language or Literature in English and one other Arts subject. ILORIN accepts Science subject.
  6. IBADAN requires five (5) or six (6) O level credit passes at one (1) or two (2) sittings to include English Language, Arts and any other two (2) subjects. Credit passes in African language and Mathematics will be an advantage.
  7. ILORIN requires O level credit passes in Arts and Social Sciences, at least one (1) Nigerian Language or Literature in English and one (1) other Arts subject.
  8. KWASU requires O level credit passes in Literature in English, any other three (3) Arts/Social Science/Science subjects plus O level pass in Mathematics.
  9. LAGOS requires five (5) O level credits passes to include English Language, Mathematics and three (3) other subjects from Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences. Social Studies and Civic Education are also accepted.
  10. BENIN requires O level credit passes in Literature in English, one (1) Arts subject and O level pass in Mathematics,
  11. UNIOSUN and UYO require O level credit pass in Literature in English.
  12. UNN - as in Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian Languages.

UTME SUBJECTS:
  1. AAUA accepts any Language and two other subjects. Three (3) Arts subjects including Government.
  2. ABSU accepts one (1) Arts and two (2) other subjects.
  3. BSU, KWASU and JABU require Literature-in-English plus any other two (2) subjects
  4. IBADAN requires any Language preferably an African Language, Literature in English and one (1) other Arts subject or Social Science subject
  5. LAGOS accepts any three (3) subjects from Arts, Sciences or Social Sciences.
  6. BENIN accepts two (2) Arts subjects and any other subject.
  7. UNIOSUN accepts any three (3) Arts subjects.
  8. UNIZIK and ILORIN require one (1) Arts subject and any two (2) subjects from Arts/Social Sciences.
  9. UYO requires Literature in English and any other two (2) Arts or Social Science subjects.
