You want to know forearmed what to prepare for. And if you've studied the JAMB brochure where the official book states on three subjects are the required subjects for your proposed course, you may be wondering why people are saying that the number of subjects the board will test on is four.

JAMB UTME Candidates Will Write 4 Subjects

Generally, all admission seekers, through UTME, are required to write or sit for 4 subjects in the Unverified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination organized by JAMB.

Of course, these four subjects vary among students depending on their proposed courses. In certain cases, science courses may require the same four subject combination while commercial and art courses do require their own right combination too.

For instance, a science student pursuing Pharmacy will choose during UTME registration and write during the exam English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

A commercial student pursuing Accounting will choose and sit for English, Maths, Economics, and Accounting. While your art counterpart chasing Law will choose and sit for English, Literature-in-English, Government and CRS/IRS or any other art subject.

Above are just three examples of combinations for different courses.

In summary, your course will determine your own must-write subjects in JAMB. In all, each candidate will write four subjects.

English is General To All Candidates Irrespective of Courses

It doesn't matter whether you're a science, commercial, or art student. It doesn't matter whether you're proposing Economics, Geology, or Linguistics, all candidates will write English in UTME.

The Use of English is central to all courses. This is why if you check your JAMB brochure, JAMB won't even bother to include English in the subject requirements for your proposed course. Instead, the brochure will only state the other three subjects relevant to your proposed course.
