ADVERTISEMENT: SHORT SERVICE COMBATANT COMMISSION COURSE 48/2025

Applications are now invited from eligible Nigerians for commission into the Nigerian Army as Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission Officers. This opportunity is open to both civilians and serving military personnel. Serving military personnel sponsored by any of the Armed Forces' Services to civil institutions will also be considered. Upon successful completion of training and commissioning, SSC officers will serve in various roles, including Combat Arms (Infantry and Armour Corps) and Combat Support Arms (Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following conditions:

1. Citizenship: Be a Nigerian citizen by birth as defined by the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
2. Age: Be between 23 and 27 years old by January 2025.
3. Fitness: Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
4. References: Obtain recommendations and attestations from at least two recognizable referees, either a Local Government Chairman/Secretary or an officer of the Armed Forces of at least the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or Assistant Commissioner of Police, from the applicant's state of origin. Passport photographs of referees must be affixed to the attestation letter.
5. Attestation: Submit a Letter of Attestation from previous institutions.
6. Height: Measure at least 1.68m (for males) and 1.65m (for females).
7. Criminal Record: Must not have any prior criminal convictions or military disciplinary cases.
8. Academic Qualifications: Possess at least a first degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division or HND with Lower Credit in any accredited field of study. Only post-secondary academic credentials obtained from 2014 to date will be considered.
9. Identification: Provide a valid birth certificate or age declaration, a certificate of state of origin, and an NYSC discharge certificate or a valid certificate of exemption (for non-serving members of the Armed Forces).
10. Documentation: Present valid contact addresses and telephone numbers of parent/guardians and Next of Kin, and ensure nobody inscriptions or tattoos.
11. Service Personnel: Present valid military identity cards, letters of recommendation, and official sponsorship letters. Must have served a minimum of 5 years and declare their Service status on application.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

1. Commission: SSC will be granted for 15 years, with 10 years on the active list and renewable for a maximum of 5 additional years. No extension beyond 15 years except through conversion to Regular Combatant Commission.
2. Rank: Officer cadets will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants. Conversion to Regular Combatant Commission is possible but subject to the availability of vacancies and other criteria.
3. Acceptance: All officer cadets must sign an acceptance of the SSC terms and conditions before commissioning.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Applications are free of charge and can be made online from August 5, 2024, to September 15, 2024.

1. Visit: Go to the Nigerian Army recruitment webpage at recruitment.army.mil.ng and select the SSC option.
2. Apply: Click "Apply Now" for the SSC course matching your qualifications.
3. Register/Login: Create an account or log in.
4. Complete Form: Fill out the application form and upload the required documents:

• Passport photograph
• Educational certificates
• Evidence of professional membership
• Certificate of state of origin
• Birth certificate or age declaration
• NIN/BVN

Print: Print out the online generated photo-slip. The first page must be signed by a Court Registrar, and the second page by a Local Government Chairman/Secretary or a senior military officer from your state of origin. Bring these printed forms, along with guarantor and attestation forms, to the Selection Board during the interview.
