NDA: How to Fill JAMB Exam Number If You Don't Have It Yet

This post will help you if you are a cafe owner who is so not familiar with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) applicant processes. If you're an applicant trying to do the application yourself, you'll also find this post helpful.

It will answer the question of how to fill out your JAMB exam number even if you don't have it at the time you're filling out the NDA form. Additionally, it will guide you on how to update it after obtaining it, as well as provide possible alternative solutions.

Some students have requested my pay-to-get-reply service on this simple issue. Though to me, it's simple because I've been familiar with the application process for more than 20 years, to a newbie, you wouldn't want to make a silly mistake when applying to NDA.

You Can Fill in Your JAMB Registration Number for the Exam Number Too

When filling out the NDA form online, there is a section where your JAMB registration number and JAMB examination number will be asked for. We both know there is a big difference between the two, although both will appear on your JAMB registration/exam slip.

Immediately after submitting your JAMB registration at the CBT center, you'll have your registration number appearing on the slip or printout given to you. However, the space for the JAMB examination number will remain "un-updated" at that time. Whereas, when filling out the NDA form, they ask for the JAMB exam number too. What will you fill in there?

The answer is you should fill in the JAMB registration number as the examination number. Nothing is wrong with that, and NDA accepts it. Of course, except if you don't know or it's yet to be updated on the official portal, NDA will update that candidates who only have the JAMB registration numbers but not yet the examination number should repeat their JAMB registration as the JAMB examination numbers. That is, they can fill in the registration numbers in both spaces: for the JAMB registration and the JAMB examination number.

You Can Wait Till the JAMB Exam Slips Are Loaded

The custom is that the JAMB examination number will not be given to students until they're printing the examination slips - popularly called "JAMB reprint". At this time, the un-updated examination number will be updated because students are about to write UTME.

In most cases, the NDA form will remain on sale during this time. So, if you don't mind, you can just save your NDA form when you get to the section asking for the JAMB examination number without submitting the NDA form. Then, after printing the JAMB exam slip, when you have the examination number, return to the NDA form and update the space correctly before submitting it.

This will be the better option for you, especially if the NDA form will remain on sale even after JAMB reprinting has started. So, it won't matter if you've started the NDA form before that time; just save it and return to the form to update and submit it before printing all your necessary documents.

For example, in 2024, the NDA form is sold until April 30. This means aspirants can apply from the opening date until April 30. 

Within this period, candidates can save, revisit to edit, over and over until the final date. Luckily, JAMB reprinting started on April 11. Affected candidates can print their JAMB exam slips, copy the examination numbers, and update their NDA application before the final date and final submission.

You Can Delete the NDA Application Form and Refill it Before the Closing Date

Just as the NDA portal will be left open for all forms of updating and editing between the opening date and the closing date, the portal also allows submitted applicants to be deleted and refilled within this time.

Once the NDA application is submitted, you can't edit anything on it again. That's why I suggest that you save it without submission if you intend to update the form later. But let's say you've already submitted the application before reading this post; luckily, you can delete the application if the form is still open, i.e., it's not yet the closing date.

Once deleted, all data earlier filled will be permanently gone. Then, you can refill the form, scan and upload the scanned documents, update the JAMB examination number correctly, and finally submit it. Then, you'll need to reprint the acknowledgment slips and similar other documents if they were earlier printed. This is because after deleting and refilling/submitting, your NDA application form number might have changed.
