Will Deleted Admission Switch to Preferred School on JAMB?

A lady recently messaged me, saying she was offered admission by a school on the JAMB portal, but she is attending another school that didn't offer her admission on the JAMB portal.

In other words, she was offered admission by one school and she started attending it. Later, she checked her admission status on the JAMB portal and found another school listed, different from the one she is attending.

What should she do? She asked how she could delete the admission offered on the JAMB portal and replace it with the one she was attending.

Let's discuss this.

There Is No Such Thing as Deletion of Admission

In fact, I've addressed this topic elsewhere on this blog: once you're offered admission, you can't simply delete or reject it. Although not directly applicable here, what you likely need in either scenario is not the deletion of admission. What you need is called a change of admission or change of admission letters. More on this shortly.

So, if you've read about the possibility of deleting an admission offered on the JAMB portal elsewhere, know that it's not as straightforward as it seems. Back in the days when candidates were allowed to delete admissions, it was even a struggle. Such candidates would have to go to the school that offered them admission and ask for a rejection letter, which would then be submitted to the JAMB office before JAMB could remove that offer from the JAMB portal.

You Can Change Admission or Admission Letters

As earlier said, what you needed is simply to change the admission whether you've already the offer or not. With that, JAMB will replace the old offered with the one you eventually claim. To do that, you should:

  1. Visit the nearest JAMB office. Here, you may need to explain your situation. They will fill out a form for a change of admission for you.
  2. Prepare about N2,500 for the official price of the service.
  3. JAMB will contact the school you're attending to ascertain if you're truly offered admission by that school.
  4. Once the arrangement is settled between them, you'll be offered admission for the school you're attending, and the other one will no longer appear on your JAMB portal.

Conclusion

If you find yourself offered admission by a different institution on the JAMB portal than the one you're attending, there's no direct way to "delete" this admission. Instead, you should pursue a change of admission through the nearest JAMB office. This process involves filling out a change of admission form and possibly paying a fee.

JAMB will then verify your actual admission status with the school you're attending. Once confirmed, your JAMB portal will be updated to reflect your current school, ensuring that the admission offer from the other school is removed. This procedure aligns your JAMB records with your actual academic situation.
