UTME/SSCE (O'level) Subjects For Pharmacy Admission

Seeking admission to Pharmacy? What are the O'level subjects required for Pharmacy? What subjects must you have credits or distinctions in before you can be considered for admission? Are universities accepting two sittings for Pharmacy?


These are a few of the questions to be answered in this post. The post will show you the general SSCE subjects to pass before pursuing admission to Pharmacy. It will also state a few conditions that universities offering Pharmacy will want you to consider before you can be admitted.

O'level Subjects Required for Pharmacy

Generally, JAMB requires all candidates seeking admission into the Pharmaceutical department of the degree-awarding institutions to possess at least five (5) SSCE credit passes in:


  1. English Language, 
  2. Mathematics, 
  3. Physics, 
  4. Chemistry, 
  5. and Biology.


This means such passes must be for A1, B2, B3, C4, C5, or C6.


Meanwhile, a few universities with the same or/and exceptional terms are detailed below:


  1. University of Ibadan (UI) requires the 5 'O' Level credit passes at one (1) sitting
  2. Niger Delta University (NDU) accepts the five (5) 'O' Level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.
  3. University of Nigeria (UNN) accepts the five (5) 'O' Level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.
  4. University of Uyo (UNIUYO) accepts the five (5) 'O' Level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings.
  5. Delta State University (DELSU) requires five (5) 'O' Level credits passes which must include English Language, Mathematics Chemistry, Physics and Biology in SSCE or its equivalents at not more than one (1) sitting.
  6. Bayero University, Kano (BUK) accepts five (5) SSCE credit passes in English language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics in not more than two sittings
  7. University of Ilorin (UNIILORIN) accepts Credit passes at O'Level in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in WASSCE or NECO at not more than two (2) sittings. In this case, NATEB is not acceptable.
  8. University of Lagos (UNILAG) accepts five O/Level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  9. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) requires Five 'O' level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  10. University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) accepts Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  11. Kaduna State University (KASU) requires Five 'O' level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.


NOTE: 

Where a university won't accept two O'level results, it will be stated categorically in the Brochure (as detailed above). Otherwise, the universities will accept two sittings.

JAMB UTME Subjects Required for Pharmacy

As a candidate seeking Pharamrcy admission, you must write:

  1. English, 
  2. Biology, 
  3. Chemistry, 
  4. and Physics. 

Unfortunately, there is no other subject combination possible for Pharmacy.

In fact, for the purpose of emphasis, the JAMB brochure has picked the following universities to ascertain the subjects required for Pharmacy in UTME. Accordingly, 

  1. UNILORIN requires Physics Chemistry and Biology.
  2. UNILAG requires English Language, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  3. ABU requires the Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  4. UNIPORT requires Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  5. KASU requires Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
