Maybe when they:
- are trying to log in to their JAMB portals/CAPS
- have logged in but when trying to accept their admission on CAPS
- are trying to access particular sections or part of their JAMB portals
A few affected cases are captured below.
I can’t access my caps to accept admission. This is the response I get every time
I am trying to access my jamb caps but it is showing me "error object reference not set to an instance of an object"?
Before The Solutions To This Problem, Let's Check The Source Of This Error
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" is a common error message in programming languages such as C#, Java, and others. This error message indicates that a variable or object has not been initialized, and therefore has no reference to an instance of an object.
This error can occur in many different situations. For example, if you try to call a method on an object that has not been initialized, you may receive this error message. Similarly, if you try to access a member variable of an object that has not been initialized, you may receive this error message.
Looking at these situations, you'll understand that it's technical and not something your can troubleshoot from your end as a JAMB applicant. It's the work of the JAMB technical team from their end.
Official Solutions to Error "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object JAMB"
To get around this mess, you have two options:
- Give it a few hours and retry
- Go to a CBT centre to access the portal
1. Give it a Few Hours and Retry
Experience has shown that the error or notice might come up if JAMB technical team are working on a specific part of the portal or carrying out maintenance.
Hence, within this time, they will not allow any access to the specific section of the JAMB portal or disallow access even from the login page.
While this inside work or maintenance is still ongoing, you'll repeatedly be seeing "object reference not set to an instance of an object".
When they're done, you'll be able to access your portal or the section.
As you must have deduced, giving it time is one solution. I suggest checking back in about 12 to 24 hours later.
2. Go to a CBT Centre to Access the Portal
CBT centres can access candidates' portals from a backyard different from where JAMB allows all candidates to access their portals, "https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/Login". They have facilities that can help them go around the temporary maintenance or stoppage of access to the JAMB portal.
Hence, if you don't want to waste time waiting or it's urgent to act on the portal, you can just visit the nearest accredited CBT centre to do whatever activities you intend to achieve.
JAMB has officially recommended using a CBT centre to help out.
Getting to the CBT centre, you don't need to tell them the story of the error you're receiving trying to access your portal, just tell them what you want to do, and they'll attend to it at a mostly bearable fee.
