Admission Requirements For Geology in Nigerian Universities

If you choose to consider Geology in JAMB UTME/DE or while changing institutions/courses, you'll want to know what the admission requirements are.

With this, you want answers to three questions depending on your own concerns. As a UTME candidate, you want to know:

  1. The JAMB subject combination for Geology and
  2. SSCE (O'level) subject requirement for it.

As Direct Entry (DE) applicant, you want to know, aside from the O'level requirements, which concern you too, what the A'level, NCE, ND, HND, or BSC required for Geology.

In this post, using the official JAMB brochure, I'll be giving you the official admission requirements for ALL universities that are offering Geology.

First, The General JAMB Requirement for Geology

According to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), candidates seeking admission into Geology must have the following.

  1. Direct Entry (DE) Applicants: Two (2) A'level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Geography.
  2. SSCE/DE Applicants: Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any other subject.
  3. JAMB subject Combination: English, plus any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and Geography.

With the stated conditions above, if a student should follow, the university proposed should admit him or her provided you meet other admission conditions.

Second, The Specific Requirement By A Few Universities Offering Geology

To prove this further and show you any difference in what each university may ask for, let's sample three of the universities - federal, state, and private. The sample universities DE, SSCE, and JAMB subjects are numbered 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State accepts as follows.

  1. Two (2) 'A' Level passes from Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography.
  2. Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other subject.
  3. Any three (3) of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State accepts as follows.

Skyline University Nigeria, Kano, Kano State accepts as follows.

Conclusion

While seeking admission into any university offering Geology in Nigeria, like any other course, the JAMB official requirement should be your priority because most if not the universities will comply with that.

As you must have seen in the post and with the sampled universities, the primary requirements are still in accordance with that of JAMB.
