UTME, SSCE & DE Subjects For Biology in Nigeria

If you choose to consider Biology in JAMB UTME/DE or while changing institutions/courses, you'll want to know what the admission requirements are.

With this, you want answers to three questions depending on your own concerns. As a UTME candidate, you want to know:

  1. The JAMB subject combination for Biology and
  2. SSCE (O'level) subject requirement for it.

As Direct Entry (DE) applicant, you want to know, aside from the O'level requirements, which concern you too, what the A'level, NCE, ND, HND, or BSC required for Biology.

In this post, using the official JAMB brochure, I'll be giving you the official admission requirements for ALL universities that are offering Biology.

First, The General JAMB Requirement for Biology

According to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), candidates seeking admission into Biology must have the following.

  1. Direct Entry (DE) Applicants: (i) Two (2) A level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany/Zoology. (ii) NCE merit accepted.
  2. SSCE/DE Applicants: Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics/Physics.
  3. JAMB subject Combination: English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

With the stated conditions above, if a student should follow, the university proposed should admit him or her provided you meet other admission conditions.

Second, The Specific Requirement By A Few Universities Offering Biology

To prove this further and show you if any difference in what each university may ask for, let's sample three of the universities - federal, state, and private. The sample universities DE, SSCE, and JAMB subjects are numbered 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Federal University Of Agriculture, Zuru, Kebbi State accepts as follows.

  1. (i) Two (2) 'A' Level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany/Zoology. (ii) NCE merit accepted.
  2. Five (5) SSC credit passes to include English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics/Physics.
  3. Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

University Of Agriculture And Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo, Imo State accepts as follows.

  3. Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Conclusion

While seeking admission into any university offering Biology in Nigeria, like any other course, the JAMB official requirement should be your priority because most if not the universities will comply with that.

As you must have seen in the post and with the sampled universities, the primary requirements are still in accordance with that of JAMB.
