After telling a student that the Federal School of Nursing Ido-Ekiti Teaching Hospital would no longer be admitting to the usual registered nursing (RN) or basic nursing program, a misunderstanding ensued. It took us a few more minutes before we could convince the prospective admission seeker and the confused mother to believe the latest developments.

Aspirant: Good morning! I am interested in applying to the Federal School of Nursing in Ido Ekiti. I heard there have been some recent changes. Could you tell me more about them?
Absolutely! You're right. The Federal School of Nursing, Ido Ekiti, has recently been upgraded to a degree-awarding institution. This change was announced by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Adekunle Ajayi, during the 2nd Convocation and Award Ceremony for the 2013 – 2019 sets.
Aspirant: That sounds interesting. What exactly does this upgrade mean for new students?
This upgrade means that the school no longer offers the Registered Nurse (RN) programme. Instead, due to a directive from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, the school will now admit students for a Bachelor of Nursing programme. This transition is part of a partnership with the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE).
Aspirant: So, if I get admitted, I will be studying for a Bachelor of Nursing degree, right?
Exactly! You will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing programme, benefiting from the collaboration between FETHI and FUOYE's Nursing Department. It's actually possible that the programme be run part-FUOYE and part-FETHI
Aspirant: I've heard some rumors that the school might be shutting down. Is there any truth to that?
No, those rumors are not true. Prof. Ajayi's clarification was necessary to address such rumors. The school is not shutting down; rather, it is evolving to offer a more advanced degree. This upgrade is in the best interest of the institution and the Ido-Ekiti community.
Aspirant: That’s a relief to hear. What should I know about the new programme and the application process?
The new Bachelor of Nursing programme will provide a comprehensive nursing education that adheres to the latest standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. The programme aims to produce highly qualified nursing professionals. As for the application process, you will need to meet the entry requirements set by FUOYE, which typically include having relevant secondary school qualifications (WEAC, NECO, GCE or NABTEB), JAMB and/or passing the required entrance exams.
Aspirant: What about the cost? Is it affordable?
The cost of education at the Federal School of Nursing, Ido Ekiti, is heavily subsidized by the government. Prof. Ajayi emphasized that the government’s support makes the programme quite affordable for students. He also encouraged graduates to remain in Nigeria and contribute to the healthcare system as a way of giving back.
