These students are usually frustrated by the Nigerian education system and the difficulty in gaining admission not only to their preferred universities but also to their most desired courses. Of course, if you've been stung by JAMB and post-UTME, you'd want to find other ways to gain admission.
And since gaining admission to universities in Benin Republic, Togo, Cameroon, etc. won't require JAMB or be as difficult as what we experience in Nigeria, these neighboring countries offer the best alternative to Nigerian education.
But what exactly is my stand about going to these countries to study? In this post, I will not only give you my verdict but also add a few official pieces of evidence to buttress my position.
Their Education Quality is Substandard
If what you're after is quality education, Benin Republic, Togo, Cameroon, etc., are not the best for you as a Nigerian student. While there is no doubt that some of their universities can be standard enough to give you quality education, very many won't do you any good in the end.
Then, if I may ask, "how do you know the few that offer the best education?". See, the reality is that even at home, in Nigeria, not all universities are given equally recognition when it comes to the value they offer to students. With some, limited by resources such as lecturers, research facilities, etc., still struggle to meet the quality of education being offered by most premiere universities.
I bet, you can't identify these sets of poor universities in Nigeria. So, if you've to look beyond the Nigerian wall, how will you possibly be able to spot a scam when you see one?
Having personally interacted with many graduates from Cotonou and Lomé, I've come to the realization that most of their graduates were no different from what they were before leaving home - if not even worse. If you think that is a fallacy, a simple and further Google search will unveil more on my point.

Certifications are obviously fake if you just use a computer program to design, redesign, or edit a certificate. But, what do you call universities that will give you their original certificates even without attending any class be it online or offline?
Most of these universities are scams and that has really hurt the integrity of the education and awards by any of these universities. Even if, in your own case, you truly attend classes, upon graduation, what will be the perception of your degree in the labor market?
Just recently, an undercover reporter bagged a Cotonou university degree in 6 weeks without leaving home or any online class engagement. This case became so serious that the Nigerian government had to place an embargo on certificates from this country and a few others. With this step by the Ministry of Education, it was reported that over 15,000 Nigerian students out there were affected. They could include those who've graduated from the universities and those who are still studying.
Even if the government eventually lifts this ban, the impression will, for decades, linger in the memories of companies and organizations whom you may want to work with.
