AWAITING RESULTS for JAMB and Other Admissions: What You Must Know

December 31, 2018

What you must Know About O'level Awaiting Results, its uses and limits.

One of the most confusing areas when it comes to seeking admission is awaiting results. Candidates want to know what it means to use awaiting results for admission. Some don't even understand what AR is.

This piece is carefully crafted to answer students' questions regards this.

What's Awaiting Result?
The first step to seeking admission is having complete O'level results i.e WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, NBAIS etc. So, when you're about to write one or you've written it but the result is yet to be released, that's what is called awaiting result.

Usual results that can be awaited include WASSCE (school candidates or private candidates), NECO (internal or external candidates), NABTEB (May/June or Nov./Dec.)

Note that, even though awaiting results are accepted by majority of schools, however, using awaiting Nov/Dec series of NECO, WAEC, NABTEB results may not meet up with current year admission. This is because, majority of schools might have completed their admission exercises before those results are released.

Also, if you use awaiting results for the JAMB UTME registration, it's important you return to any CBT centre to upload your SSCE result as soon as it's released by the exams body.

Even though some people may see this unnecessary, yet JAMB has once advised candidates using results no yet released to go back for uploading. This admission year may not be different.

Using Awaiting Results for the University, Polytechnic and College Admissions
One of  the commonest questions about result not yet released is, can it be used for admission?

Yes it can be.

Ordinarily, for each admission year, shoals are expected to wait for the release of WASSCE May/June,  NECO June/July and NABTEB May/June before they end their admission exercises.

This is why very often, institutions wait for these exams bodies to release their results before they begin the admission process. Some will delay their post UTME registrations or extend the closing dates.

However, in most cases, only WAEC May/June results will meet all schools admission while some might have ended their admission exercises before NECO and NABTEB May/June are release.

Using Awaiting Results for Schools of Nursing, Health Tech and Hygiene
Generally, all schools of nursing, colleges of health technology and schools of hygiene accept awaiting results. This was explained better in the post, "School of Nursing, Health Tech and Hygiene: Answers to Students’ Questions on Admissions". These schools however may warn applicants in their adverts if they won't accept AR.

The following schools of Nursing and health are known for allowing applicants to fill AR during their registrations.
  1. Ogun State School of Nursing and Midwifery, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta
  2. Oyo State College of Nursing Eleyele, Ibadan
  3. Ogun State College of Health Technology (OSCOTECH) Ilese Ijebu
  4. University of Benin Teaching Hospital

Using Awaiting Results for Scholarships Application
It's not a usual thing to see scholarship openings considering students with results not yet released. This is because the primary basis for selecting applicants for such scholarships include the SSCE results, participation in a scheduled test (if any) etc.

If by any chance they will consider awaiting results for scholarships, it should be detailed in the scholarship adverts.

However, it has not occur in my experience for students to gain or seek admissions to foreign schools with awaiting result. In this case, your results must be ready before making foreign admission attempt.

Using Awaiting Results for Predegree, IJMB, JUPEB
Predegree is a year course you can undertake before writing JAMB UTME and seek admission to the school where you underwent the preliminary course. IJMB or JUPEB is equally a year preliminary course but more intensive. Instead of taking UTME after its completion, you obtain JAMB DE form which will give you admission to 200 level.

For these three courses, you may be allowed to obtain their forms provided you will provide your SSCE result on completion and before finally processing your proposed course admission through DE.

OYES Registration Issues and Solutions, Closing Date, Supports Links and More

    December 28, 2018
The 2nd round Osun State Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) registration started officially by 11th December, 2018. Since then, prospective beneficiaries have been trying to fill and submit the form with no success.

Some applicants complained of the white page display after filling the form. This means, you will be displayed a blank page after the submission. Some could not receive their SMS verification code.

These and any other related issues are temporary, of course. But there are quick ways-out around the challenges you may be facing with the application. That’s what this post is meant to address.

Having Issues Receiving Verification Phone Code
The first stage of the application is to fill basic data including names, phone number and email address. The phone number should be active to receive text message from the OYES database.

However, some phone may not receive this SMS for one reason or the other. So, what do you do to proceed at this level? Visit this link http://oyes.org.ng/2018/wip/retrieve_code.php.

It will ask you to resupply the number email. Then enter the capcha image correctly. Click RETRIEVE and your phone code will display. Write the code down as you will need it again and again.

Year of Exams or Qualification Does Not Show in the Form
If you proceed to second stage; where you will fill other information needed from you, towards the end of the form, you will need to fill the name of your highest qualification and the year of graduation. However, some recent years are not showing from the drop down.

    What’s the solution to this?

I advise you log out at this page. Don’t pick the wrong year. The form is still having some congestion issues. Kindly be patient and visit your form again.

You can as well send complaint messages to the support email (websupport@oyes.org.ng) for quick attention to your issues.

See also: Nigerian Police Recruitment: 4 Reasons Why You Must Apply Before the Closing Date

I’m Registering on Phone, Will I be Able to Print Out Later?
    The answer is YES!

There’s the log in page for all applicants of OYES. Whether you apply on your phone or computer, you can always return to this page.

You will need to enter your email used during the registration and the phone code you wrote down (or received through SMS). Then, log in to print and reprint your photo card.

I made mistakes during the registration, Will They Still Consider Me?
Well, from experience – certain mistakes may not matter. For example misarranging names, wrong sex, address etc may not be implicating. If you claim qualification you don’t have, you may be disqualified during the physical screening later.

When is the Closing Date for the Registration?
Right now, we don't have information regards the closure of the form. However, from experience, the form may close within two weeks. Hurry up!

N37 Million Npower Competition: See Videos Submitted by Beneficiaries

    December 26, 2018
In just two weeks of launching the Impact Series Competition for the existing Npower beneficiaries, the support team has received a dozen videos from beneficiaries across the nation.

Remember, the support team has thrown in the air a 37 million naira challenge among the volunteers and they’re expecting a beneficiary from each state to catch a million naira.

Contestants have already been making their videos and submitting them to the team. These videos can be found under the dedicated Twitter handle.

In case you an existing beneficiary and you wish to take part in the ongoing competition, all it requires is a minute video and some sharings on the internet.

Step to Take Part in the Npower Impact Series Competition
Follow the guide below to take part in the Npower Impact Series Competition
    1. Create a video of Npower impacts in your lives or the community at large (Not more than a minute)
    2. Share the video on Impact competition handle   #NPowerNG or #ThisIsNPower
    3. The share on other social channels such as Facebook, Instagram etc. Be sure you add the hashtag #ThisIsNPower. This is the only way the team will be aware that the traffic is coming from your video.

Having said that, some critics believe Federal government is doing all these to lure Nigerian youth to voting for the APC administration comes 2019 general election.

Expect Npower registration in few weeks
Npower has earlier announced that the 2018 Npower registration would start by 5th November and to be rounded off by 16th. Though, the category aimed for this application is only N-Build. However, the portal for the registration remained the same without any update to start the application as at Monday expected.

Awaiting applicants remained calm till today to see if the delay was temporary. But the state of things and latest announcement by the support team has indicated that the registration may not start until next few weeks, if not months.

The report however promises that proper details for the new applicants will be communicated in due course.

Some awaiting applicants show disappointment as they’ve been waiting patiently for the portal to open. Yet, some prospective applicants for this N-build category of Npower show some understanding and hope to hear good news shortly.

With the update above, we can all deduce that Npower may not open the portal for the new application until the next four or five weeks and it can be earlier than expected. But they’re yet to conclude precisely.

Having said that, all interested candidates should subscribe to this blog to receive email messages on the new developments about this and to be notified when the form finally opens.

University of Ibadan (UI) Distance Learning Admission Form is Out. See Details

    December 25, 2018
Applications are hereby invited from qualified candidates for admissions into the fifteen (15) National Universities Commission-validated  Degree Programmes of the Distance Learning Centre, University of Ibadan for the 2018/19 Academic Session.

About University of Ibadan Distance Learning School
It is my profound pleasure to inform you that UIDLC now has fifteen (15) fully NUC validated programmes. The fifteen are made up of newly nine additionally validated programmes by the NUC

It is relevant to further inform you that UIDLC is the only Open Distance Learning Centre in Nigeria with such number of programmes. UIDLC is a leading Open Distance Learning platform in a dual mode university in the country given the fact that the Centre is the benchmark upon which other centres in other universities are rated. It is also heart-warming to note that in terms of facility and number of NUC-validated academic programmes, the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre is leading and indeed it is a trail blazer in the Open and Distance Learning Centre.

The Centre, which clocks 30 years this year, humbly started as the Centre for External Studies because of the need to give educational access to those who, for sundry reasons, are unable to attend the regular programmes of the University. Over the years, the Centre has graduated over ten thousands learners and many of whom are distinguishing themselves in their chosen careers.

The programmes are run under the University’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Platform.

The University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre (UIDLC) is an arm of the University responsible for providing Open and Distance Learning University Education. This mode of education is technology-mediated and provides for minimum physical interaction between the learners and their lecturers. DLC learners are spread across different locations within and outside the country because of the convenience of access which is made available by this mode.

It is noteworthy to further inform prospective candidates that the academic activities of UIDLC are facilitated by the same lecturers as the regular mode of study. The issuance of the same certificates as obtainable in the conventional university system is also assured. This is technically referred to as PARITY OF ESTEEM- both categories of students have equal rights and privileges.

The Centre’s vision is to make available educational opportunity available for liberty and development. In view of this lofty goal, the Centre is not resting on its oars but rather gears towards creating more educational opportunities for all through the provision of better facilities for learning and up-to-date open distance scholarship.

After Obtaining Nigerian Police Force (NPF) Form, What Next?

    December 24, 2018
I was quick to post that Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has started recruiting this year. Some of my readers were grateful for that. I’m sure if you’re my subscriber, you’d got that update earlier than your friends.

Since the registration opened, the Police Service Commission has received hundreds of applications. Hence, I’ve got some applicants asking what next after the online registration is completed.

This post is meant to answer that question. I will take you by hands and show you what you should expect in a few weeks after registration ends by January 11.

I cover 5 next stages after submitting your online application.

    Print all Evidence of Registration
This is more obvious though, however, if you don’t know, three documents should be in your folder immediately after completing the registration. These are:
    1. Completed form print-out: This will show all the details you filled online. You may need it to prove anything in the future, in case some discrepancies occur. If you didn’t print this earlier, check your email – it should be there too.
    2. Confirmation Message with Unique ID: After printing your completed form, on the next page, you should be presented with a congratulatory message. This message acknowledged that your registration was successful and received at the other end. It displays a UNIQUE ID number. The number may be important for any help or processing assistance.
    3. Guarantor Form: Right at the home page of the NFP recruitment portal, you will see the link to print the Guarantor form. It’s advisable you print this out in colour – not only to make it original but it’s better presentable in colour for your guarantors.
This is evidence of a successful application. Take note of the code

Get Your Guarantor Form Signed Rightly

Even though the instructions on how the Guarantor form should be signed had been put on the said paper, some applicants will be blind to this and just handle things carelessly.

Here is the category of people who can sign this form for you. Pay attention to this, please.
    1. Traditional Rulers,
    2. Magistrate,
    3. Local Government Chairman,
    4. Heads of Educational Institutions attended,
    5. Career Civil Servant not below the rank of Grade Level 12,
    6. Police Officer not below the rank of CSP, or
    7. Military Officer not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel

NOTE: You need two different guarantors. You can use two traditional rulers if you like. Nothing is wrong with using two different civil servants too. Hope you get? Also, you need the photocopies of their ID cards of any type and a passport for each.

If you’d wrongly signed the form, no need to worry. Just return to the website and reprint another copy.

    Partake in the State Screening
After the closing date, you should be on the lookout for NPF SMS or email message inviting you to participate in the state physical screening.

This screening of documents and individual candidates will take place at physical grounds to be announced later. You can subscribe to this blog to receive my email message immediately they announce the screening date.

You’ll need the following items for the screening:
    1. Completed registration form,
    2. Confirmation/Unique ID page
    3. Guarantor Form
    4. Local Government Identification (Evidence of State of origin)
    5. Birth Certificate/Court Age Declaration
    6. SSCE (O’level) Results (original)
    7. Blue Shorts (knickers) and a white t-shirt
    8. White canvass

    Computer Based Examination
If you’re successful at the screening level, congratulations! Now, you can proceed to the computer-based test to be conducted at different centres across the nation.

This test will be conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Areas of the test were usually Mathematics, English and general papers.

Final Selection, Medical Test and Posting to Training School
After the result of your exams is announced, it’s obvious - boys have been separated from men.

The commission will then post the final list of the successful applicants that will proceed to the Nigerian Police Force Training School.

Candidates will be asked to report the state headquarters of theirs for a medical test. From there, they will be moved to the police training schools across the nation.

    Conclusion
These are the usual stages that will follow your application for the force. Things may change a bit this year because it’s a system.

However, this was what we were used to and there won’t be many departures if there will be any difference at all this year.

Still haven't applied? Visit the page to read details of the application and procedures to fill the form.
