Biology is the study of the structure, function, heredity, and evolution of all living things-microorganisms, fungi, plants, and animals. Secondary education prepares you to be a high school teacher. You learn the curriculum and methods of teaching a specific subject, in this case biology.

The curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Biology Education (BIOE) degree couples the coursework required for the regular Biology B.A. degree with additional courses necessary and recommended for certification to teach biology at the secondary level.

DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENT
NCE/A level passes in Biology and one (1) other Science subject.

SSCE (O'LEVEL) RESULTS REQUIREMENT
Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one (1) other subject.

JAMB UTME SUBJECT COMBINATION
Biology and two (2) other subjects from Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS TO NOTE FOR BIOLOGY EDUCATION ADMISSION

DIRECT ENTRY:
(i) MAUTY and UDU require O level pass in Physics or Mathematics.
(ii) UDU, and EDALV - same as for Educ./Chemistry.
(iii) BSU, IMSU, DELSU, ABSU AND ABUJA require NCE not below merit.
(iv) CALABAR accepts NCE credit or merit in Biology and one (1) other science subject.
(v) RSUST and MINNA accept ND/HND lower credit and NCE merit in addition to four (4) relevant UTME subjects.
(vi) LAGOS accepts NCE credit/merit in Biology and other Science subjects. It accepts very good passes in the following JUPEB subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and the UTME requirements.
(vii) JOS accepts NCE General English in lieu of O level English Language and Geography/Physics as a Science subject.
(viii) ADSU requires NCE/HND merit/credit in relevant subjects/programmes.
(ix) EKSU accepts a pass in NCE General English in lieu of O level credit in English Language.
(x) EDKAN does not accept Integrated Science, General Science, Health Science or Agricultural Science In lieu of Biology. Admission is by Direct Entry only.
(xi) BENIN requires A level passes with two (2) or three (3) NCE merit to include Biology plus three (3) or two (2) O level credit passes to include English Language at one (1) sitting.
(xii) DELSU requires A level passes from Biology/Botany or Zoology and Chemistry/Geography/Physics.
(xiii) BAUCHI accepts NCE pass with five (5) years teaching experience.
(xiv) EDZAR - requires three (3) A level passes to include Biology. It also accepts NCE in Biology and one other Science subject with 'C' grade including Education. Admission is by Direct Entry only.
(xv) NASARAWA accepts ND in Science Education from ABU and any other recognised institution.
(xvi) UMYUK accepts two (2) A level credit passes in Biology and Chemistry or Physics, Credit in NCE or upper credit in ND.
(xvii) BOWEN accepts A level, IJMB/NCE/ND or its equivalent in Biology, Botany and Chemistry.
(xviii) UNIOSUN accepts NCE credit.
(xix) ABU accepts:
(a) NCE/A level /IJMB passes with C grade in Biology and Education.
(xx) OAU accepts two (2) A level passes or NCE credit/merit in Biology, Botany or Zoology and one (1) other Science or professional subject, A level pass or NCE credit/merit in Agricultural Science double major or combined with any teaching/professional subject
(xxi) IAUED requires A level passes in Biology/Botany or Zoology and Chemistry or Physics. It accepts NCE OR ND credits
(xxii) MAKURDI accepts ND upper credit in relevant programmes in addition to the UTME requirements.
(xxiii) EDKANO - Accepts not less than eight (8) points in NCE.
(xxiv) TASUED requires two (2) A level passes/NCE Science subjects to include Biology.
ND/HND upper credit in the following specialization:
a) Science Laboratory Technology-option in Biology, Chemistry AND Microbiology.
b) Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry
c) Food Technology
(xxv) SOSU accepts:
a. IJMB passes in two (2) relevant subjects with the UTME requirements.
b. ND/HND credit in relevant programmes into 100 level.
(xxvi) AAUA requires three (3) NCE merit in Education, Biology and one (1) relevant teaching Science subject.
(xxvii) FED-DUTSINMA requires two (2) A level passes in Botany/Zoology/Biology and Chemistry. It also accepts ND/NCE with good grades in any relevant programmes/ subjects.

SSCE RESULTS
(i) AAUA, EDALV and UNN accept O level pass in Mathematics or its equivalent.
(ii) MAUTY and OOU accept a pass in English Language.
(iii) DELSU accepts O level pass in English Language provided the candidate has a distinction in O level Biology.
(iv) EDLAV accepts D7 in English Language or Mathematics.
(v) IMSU requires Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Mathematics.
(vi) ABU accepts:
(a) TC II and requires two (2) other relevant Science subjects.
(b) Five (5) O level credit passes in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one (1) other subject from Physics or Geography.
(vii) UYO requires O level credit pass in English Language.
(viii) UMYUK requires five (5) O level credit passes which must include Mathematics, English Language, Biology and any other two (2) Science subjects.
(ix) BOWEN does not accept Agricultural Science as another Science subject.
(x) TASUED requires five (5) O level credit passes at one sitting or six (6) O level credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Geography.
(xi) OAU requires five (5) O level credit passes which must include English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one (1) other subject.
(xii) UNIOSUN requires five (5) O level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology to form the core subjects, with credit passes in two (2) other relevant Science subjects at not more than two (2) sittings.
(xiii) AAUA require five (5) O level credit passes which must include Mathematics, English Language, Biology and two (2) subjects from Physics, Chemistry and Agricultural Science
(xiv) LAGOS accepts five (5) O level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and any two (2) of Physics, Biology, Agricultural Science, Integrated Science and Fisheries/Animal Husbandry.
(xv) FED-DUTSINMA accepts five (5) O level credit passes to include: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any one (1) of Physics, Geography, Health Science or Agricultural Science. A pass in Physics will be accepted.

UTME SUBJECTS:
(i) OOU requires Mathematics and one (1) other subject.
(ii) EDASAB and BENIN accept Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics.
(iii) EKSU accepts Agricultural Science/Biology.
(iv) IAUED requires Chemistry as one (1) of other two (2) subjects.
(v) DELSU requires Chemistry.
(vi) MAKURDI requires Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.
(vii) TASUED requires Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Geography.
(viii) FED-DUTSINMA requiresBiology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.
