I know this from the past and that’s not going to change.

Now, to the cut-off mark for this year, below is what you must know.

JAMB Has Announced 2022/2023 Admission Cut-Off Marks

The JAMB national cut-off marks for 2022 had been announced. For the 2021 admission, Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of education, and others were allowed to declare their own cut-off marks.

In other words, instead of the board tot state, as usual, 160, 120, or 100 for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education respectively, the board gave all these institutions the free hand to consider any score they deem fit for their aspirants.

Therefore, candidates didn't wait for JAMB to bail them out of the admission mess as far as cut-off marks were concerned. They looked out for what their proposed schools would announce for them.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Thursday, approved cut-off marks for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in the country.

The decision was taken after a heated session comprising officials from JAMB, the Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission, and the National Board for Technical Education among others.

For the polytechnics and colleges of education, the 100 cut-off mark was approved while 140 was approved for universities.

But there is more you must know.

Key Information to Know About the National Cut-Off Marks

  1. Even if  JAMB announces the cut-off mark, each school will still decide its own cut-off marks. This may conform to that of JAMB and it may not.
  2. No school will announce her cut-off mark until JAMB has come up with theirs. But that may change now that JAMB has given them the freedom to decide their cut-off marks
  3. Even before now, where a school declares a mark higher than JAMB’s, the school score supersedes.
  4. Therefore, don’t believe all lies you’re seeing online for now.

How to Know Your School Cut-Off Marks Before They Announce

Good. If I must answer that rightly, I will have to give you each institution’s cut-off mark as of the last admission year.

What we conclude is, in most cases, a majority of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education are consistent with the marks being used in the last admission. For example, some schools will not accept less than 200 no matter what JAMB says, some 180, some 150, some 140, and some strictly adhere to JAMB's.

Conclusion

The JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) cut-off marks for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria are determined by the respective institutions and approved by JAMB. However, JAMB has set a minimum cut-off mark of 160 for admission into universities, 120 for polytechnics, and 100 for colleges of education.

It is important to note that meeting the JAMB cut-off mark does not guarantee admission into the institution of choice as admission is also based on the candidate's performance in post-UTME screening exercises, availability of spaces, and other admission criteria set by the institutions.
